Get Treatment for Chlamydia
Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in the world. Nearly four million people get chlamydia each year in the United States alone. A bacterial infection, it often causes no symptoms. However, it can cause serious complications if left untreated. Fortunately, it is easy to treat chlamydia.
Instructions
Recognize the Symptoms of Chlamydia
1. Watch out for painful urination, as it is one of the most common symptoms of chlamydia. The pain will most likely be a burning or stinging sensation.
2. Look for unusual discharge from the **** or vagina. Discharge that is unusual in color, especially watery or foul smelling is a typical indicator of a chlamydia infection.
3. Be aware that vaginal bleeding or spotting, not related to a menstrual cycle, is a symptom of chlamydia.
4. Understand that pain in the abdomen and pain during sexual intercourse are also symptoms of chlamydia.
5. Monitor body temperature. A fever is a common symptom of chlamydia, particularly when it presents along with one or more other symptoms.
Treat Chlamydia Immediately
6. Get tested at your physician's office if you suspect you may have chlamydia. The physician will collect either a urine sample or a swab from your vagina or urethra (if you are a man). These tests are very accurate and the results are available quickly.
7. Obtain the appropriate antibiotics. Since chlamydia is a bacterial infection, antibiotics are the most effective way to treat it. Your doctor may prescribe doxycycline, tetracycline, amoxicillin or erythromycin.
8. Make sure you take all of the prescribed antibiotics. Even if you are feeling better, the infection may still be active. Sticking with your medication regimen, for the entire time indicated by your doctor, will greatly reduce the chances of a relapse.
9. Avoid sexual intercourse while you are taking your antibiotics. Not only is sex likely to be painful while you have an active chlamydia infection, but you can also pass this infection on to your partner.
10. Get a second test. This is done once you've taken all of your antibiotics. The second test is to ensure that the chlamydia infection is gone.
