Make Face Cream

Make Face Cream

Face cream is one of the oldest cosmetic products, invented by the Greek physician Galen nearly 2,000 years ago, when he combined oil, wax, and rose water. This basic face cream is easy to make at home, and very inexpensive. Using this method, you can make the equivalent of many expensive face creams on the market today for a fraction of the cost. This recipe makes approximately six ounces of natural, soothing face cream, which can be used as a cleanser, moisturizer, or to prevent blemishes.

Instructions

1. Combine ½ ounce white wax with one ounce lanolin in a glass pan or double boiler. Heat the mixture over a low flame until the ingredients are completely melted, about three to five minutes, stirring constantly.

2. Add 3 ounces sweet almond oil and 1 ounce rose water slowly to the wax and lanolin mixture. Stir constantly while adding. Remove the pan from heat.

3. Add five to 10 drops essential oil of choice, if desired. If you decide to add essential oil, choose for your skin type. Try using rose or lavender for normal to dry skin, tea tree or peppermint for oily or acne prone skin, and rose geranium or neroli for sensitive skin.

4. Transfer the face cream to a low tub or jar. Label with the contents and date. Place the jar in the refrigerator if the cream has not been used within 30 days, where it will keep an additional 30 days.

5. To use the face cream, apply directly to the face, massaging laugh lines upwards, and over the cheek toward the outer section of the eye. Pat the under eye areas delicately with the cream, and gently massage crow's feet upward toward the temples. Massage the forehead from the middle, moving outward, while applying the face cream.
