Get Rid Of Or Soften Calluses On The Heel

Proper skincare prevents calluses from forming on the heels.

Calluses leave your skin feeling and looking rough, dry and discolored. These thick patches develop on the heels for a number of reasons including walking in your bare feet or having shoes rub against your skin. Calluses serve to protect the skin, such as calluses on a guitarist's fingertips, but can also cause discomfort. Regardless of the cause, callused heels aren't something you want to showcase in a slinky pair of sandals. You can get rid of calluses on your heels with a persistent skincare regimen that treats the calluses while softening the skin.

Instructions

1. A foot soak soothes feet and softens calluses.

Fill a foot bath with 1 gallon warm water and stir in 1 tsp. of sea bath salts. Soak your feet in the foot bath for at least five minutes to soften the calluses.

2. Pumice is a natural stone that wears away calluses.

Remove your feet from the bath soak and pat them dry with a clean bath towel. Rub a dampened pumice stone back and forth over the calluses on your heels to wear away the thick skin. Use the pumice stone for three or four minutes at each session. Rinse the pumice stone to remove dead skin cells and allow it to air dry.

3. Dampen your skin with warm water. Place a dime-sized amount of exfoliating foot scrub in your hands. Scrub your heels and the rest of your feet with the scrub to remove dead skin cells. Rinse your feet with warm water and pat them dry.

4. Apply a thick coat of petroleum jelly to your heels while the skin is still moist. Put on cotton socks to keep the petroleum jelly on your feet. Wear the socks overnight, if possible.

5. Remove your cotton socks. Rub foot moisturizer into your heels and the rest of your feet in the morning.
