Facelift Complications

Women turn to face lift procedures to help restore a youthful appearance to the face. Face lifts are relatively safe procedures, but as with any surgery complications can arise that tend to be temporary for most patients.

Reaction To Anesthesia

Some patient experience nausea and vomiting due to anesthesia after surgery. This is a short-term complication that goes away within a few hours.

Bleeding

Light bleeding is normal after surgery, however, uncontrolled bleeding is dangerous and can lead to hematomas.

Hematoma

A hematoma develops when bleeding occurs under the skin and is painful. A second surgery is needed to stop blood flow and to remove the hematoma.

Infection

Symptoms of infection after a face lift are swelling, redness, and a feeling of heat that surrounds the incision. Antibiotics are prescribed to clear the infection up.

Numbness

Numbness is a temporary side effect that happens when the nerves are cut during a face lift. Once the nerves heal, feeling should return.
