The American Dental Association recommends tray-applied gels containing 10 percent carbamide peroxide for at-home whitening. Although the ADA only gives their seal of approval to products dispensed by your dentist, it is possible to get and maintain the same quality results safely in your own home without the expense of visiting your dentist.
Instructions
1. Purchase a Dr. Collins All White Bleaching System. You can find them on Drugstore.com or Dentist.net. They are available in concentrations of 10, 16, 22 and 30 percent. The 10 percent formulation has the least amount of peroxide and is best for sensitive teeth. It is a similar formulation to that available from your dentist for home use.
As instructed by the package directions included with the product, place the mouth guards briefly in boiling water, then in your mouth to shape them when sufficiently cooled. Wear the product according to the manufacturer's recommendations based on your formulation.
2. Brush your teeth a minimum of twice daily using an anti-cavity toothpaste recommended by the ADA. Twice weekly, use an ADA-approved whitening toothpaste to maintain your whitening treatment.
3. Use a straw to avoid staining your front teeth when drinking tooth-staining beverages such as tea, coffee, soda, red wine and dark fruit juices. Brush you teeth after drinking these types of beverages to keep your teeth white. If you don't have access to a toothbrush, simply rinse your mouth with water, preferably warm, after drinking any of these beverages.
4. Eat foods, fruits and vegetables that are naturally exfoliating or bacteria-fighting. Celery, raw onions and Shitake mushrooms are all saliva-stimulating foods that will fight plaque-causing bacterias that stain your teeth. Cheese forms a protective wall on your teeth while prompting saliva production. Eating strawberries or scrubbing your teeth with an orange peel's exterior are tangy ways to brighten your smile.
5. Repeat your whitening treatment every six to twelve months to keep your teeth looking terrific.
