Distill Oil From Rose Hips

Pick the rosehips when they are orange.

Rose hip oil is valued for its moisturizing qualities, as well as its high levels of vitamins A, E and C. You can make your own rose hip oil at home, resulting in an orange amber-colored liquid that quickly absorbs into your skin.

Instructions

1. Put the chopped rose hips in a pot. Cover the rose hips with water. Put the pot on the stove.

2. Fit the plastic tubing over the small end of the funnel. Put the other end of the tubing inside the glass jar and use aluminum foil to seal the opening of the jar around the tubing.

3. Put the ice in the bucket, then nestle the glass jar in the ice. Place this next to the stove.

4. Cover the pot on the stove with aluminum foil. Poke a large hole, slightly smaller than the wide end of the funnel, in the middle of the foil. Place the wide end of the funnel over the hole. If the funnel does not stay in place easily, wrap more foil around the funnel and the pot.

5. Turn the burner to the high setting and allow the water to come to a boil. Turn the burner down to medium and let the rose hips and water simmer for 90 minutes. Turn off the burner and remove the pot from the heat.

6. Move the glass jar to a flat surface. Allow the liquid that has collected in the jar to separate for several hours. The orange layer, which should move to the top, is the rose hip oil. Use the turkey baster to transfer it to another container for storage.
