Remove Mold & Mildew From The Body

Inhaling mold spores can cause a variety of health problems, including a cough.

Mold and mildew are an unsightly and potentially dangerous problem that many home owners have to deal with. Mold and mildew can cause mild to severe health and respiratory problems. The toxins in mold and mildew are called mycotoxins. When these toxins are inhaled you may experience body aches, headaches, coughing, fatigue and mood swings. If you have been exposed to mold and mildew, it is best to perform a mycotoxin detox as soon as possible to rid your body of those harmful toxins.

Instructions

Remove Mold and Mildew from Inside the Body

1. Keep hydrated. Drinking plenty of water is an important part of detoxing your body to remove the mold and mildew. The water will aid in flushing the toxins out of your body.

2. Visit your doctor. Your primary care physician may be able to prescribe an inhaler or antihistamine to help rid your body of mold and mildew.

3. Increase your garlic intake. Garlic is a natural anti-fungal vegetable that will help rid your body of the mycotoxins that are associated with mold.

4. Take herbal supplements. Herbs such as goldenseal, psyllium and cascara sagrada will aid in cleansing your bowels, intestinal tract and bowels. They will flush the mold and mildew out of your body.

Remove Mold and Mildew from Outside the Body

5. Keep the area affected with the mold and mildew dry. Mold and mildew thrive in dark, damp areas. Keeping yourself clean and dry will go a long way to combat the mold and mildew.

6. Apply tea tree oil to the area. Use a cotton ball saturated in tea tree oil and apply to the effected area three times a day until the mold and mildew has disappeared.

7. Soak the area with a cotton ball saturated in apple cider vinegar a few times a day. The vinegar will work as an antiseptic and drying agent.

Get Asbestos Compensation

Get Asbestos Compensation

Hearing that you are loved one has mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease is hard to hear no matter what. You can however seek asbestos compensation for your losses. People suffering from an asbestos related illness and family members of mesothelioma victims that have already passed, can file an asbestos claim to seek monetary compensation. This money can help pay for things such as medical bills, lost wages, disability, psychiatric assistance for mental anguish, and other damages.

Here are some steps to follow to receive asbestos compensation:

Instructions

1. In order to file a claim for asbestos compensation, you must already be diagnosed with mesothelioma or some other asbestos-related disease such as asbestosis. The only way to be diagnosed is to first visit your doctor and have a full physical examination. The doctor will look at your past history with asbestos, and possibly do x-rays, an MRI or CT scan, lung capacity testing, and take a biopsy of the area or fluid. A biopsy is always needed to conclusively diagnose mesothelioma.

2. You will need to determine your states "statute of limitations" on filing for asbestos compensation. This law puts a limit on the amount of time a person has to seek asbestos litigation. Some states only allow a few years after being diagnosed to file an asbestos claim. If you are past your states limit, don't lose hope. Talk to an experienced mesothelioma attorney to be sure.

3. The next step is to find an attorney who has experience working with asbestos compensation cases. You can search for an experienced asbestos lawyer at the bar associations, in the Yellow Pages, on the Internet, through word-of-mouth referrals, etc.

4. Interview various lawyers on their experience with asbestos compensation. Find out how many related cases they have worked on, and find out how many they have won. You'll want an asbestos lawyer that not only has experience working on asbestos cases, but one who also has experience winning!

5. You will then discuss with your attorney the various options you have for seeking asbestos compensation. Your lawyer may negotiate your case out of court or your case may go to trial.

Talk To Kids With Autism

Kids with autism have very unique verbal and non-verbal language differences that can make it difficult to talk to them. Kids with autism range from very low to very high functioning. Even if you are talking to an intelligent high-functioning person with autism and they appear to have good language skills, their language differences can make conversational skills difficult. Understanding their needs, though, can help to make a conversation go smoothly. It can help to ensure that they really understand what you are saying.

Instructions

1. To talk to kids with autism, be aware of and monitor for some of the common language difficulties that they have.

Kid with autism (again, no two people with autism are exactly alike) tend to think very literally. They have a hard time with slang, non-literal language, implied concepts, and generalizations. They have a harder time with turn taking. They also do not read the more subtle nuances of socialization well. This could include facial expressions, feelings that are demonstrated in our tone of voice, meanings that are derived by our relationship with the other person or the setting, etc. They may not understand how behavior changes between more formal encounters and less formal encounters. They are generally uncomfortable with eye contact. They have a hard time sustaining a conversation or topic, especially a topic of another person's choosing. That is because it is often hard for them to take the perspective of other people. In other words, "I am interested in this so surely everyone else is."

2. Know when to require eye contact.

Higher functioning adults with autism all say (I have heard them say this at conference after conference) that they can make eye contact but it comes with a price. When they make eye contact, they are usually so focused on that very thing that their comprehension of what is being said is impaired. Research shows that people with autism tend to look at the mouth region of the face. They are still looking at your face though, so you know that you do have their attention. However, eye contact is a social expectation. It can get in the way of gaining employment, friends, etc. The best recommendation is to only require more direct eye contact during very social situations that do not require much comprehension. They have to learn that there are times that it will be expected from them and they have to have experience with that. Let them know the times when they need to focus on making that eye contact. However, if you are giving instructions to a student or to your child, then comprehension may be much more important than eye contact as long as you know you have their attention.

3. Use literal language.

This can be difficult because we may not even realize how much implied language we actually use. For example, if we are talking to another adult and a child with autism starts to interrupt, we might say something like "I am talking to someone." That does not tell them to wait. Their reaction might be to think "yes, you are talking to someone" and then go right on talking. You have to be specific and tell them that you need them to wait until after you are done talking before they speak.

4. Keep words and conversation length to a minimum.

Kids with autism tend to have a limited attention span when it comes to things that are of interest to others. Additionally, they often do not have the same need to please others that we might expect. It will be easy to loose their interest and attention.

5. Pair verbal language with non-verbal cues and verify understanding.

Kid with autism tend to think in pictures. They are far more visual than auditory. When giving them information or redirecting them, it is preferable to use cues to support verbal communication. Point to what you are referring to or actually show them what you mean, etc. Provide visual input as well as auditory. Also, do not expect them to gain meaning from your facial expressions or tone of voice. Kids with autism can be taught to do this but it has to be concretely taught, just like a math problem would be. Unless this is a skill they have mastered, do not necessarily expect it. Finally, if you are giving them information or directions, always check for understanding. Do not ask, "did you understand" because there is a good chance they will give an affirmative response even though they did not understand. Ask them "show me.." or "tell me what I just said."

6. Be patient.

The minds of kids with autism are often processing much better than it would appear. Teachers may tell a child something and the child will appear to not have a clue what was said. However, weeks later they can often repeat it back and actually demonstrate understanding. Patience is also required with turn taking in conversations. They may tend to want to keep going back to their preferred topic. It is not that they do not care about what you are saying, it is just that their mind does not operate in a "I can focus on what is important to you" mode. They have one main perspective and that is their own perspective.

When giving information that they need to know or when redirecting them, turn the topic back to what needs to be said. Be patient, but also be firm. Be willing to stop them and say, "We can talk about ___ but first we have to talk about ___" or "no, we are talking about ___."

During more casual conversation, be willing to talk about something of interest to them. They may be enthralled that you like the same things they do. It could be a basis for supporting good casual conversation and supporting a positive relationship.

Chemotherapy Nausea Treatments

Chemotherapy, a common cancer treatment that shrinks tumors, causes nausea and vomiting in many cancer sufferers. Nausea leads to fatigue and weakness in many cancer patients, preventing them from performing daily functions. To decrease this debilitating side effect, doctors prescribe chemotherapy nausea treatments to help patients function during their chemo. Anti-nausea treatments range from conventional drug treatments and naturopathic procedures that help relax people getting chemotherapy treatments. Medications that treat nausea, though, produce other side effects in cancer sufferers.

Corticosteroids

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America say that corticosteroids work as anti-inflammatory drugs; however, doctors use them as chemotherapy nausea treatments in some patients. Doctors prescribe these medications orally or intravenously, taken alone or with other drugs. The negative side effects of corticosteroids include anxiety, high blood pressure, muscle weakness, gastrointestinal symptoms, and weak immune systems.

Dopamine Antagonists

Dopamine antagonists are chemotherapy nausea treatments used for acute vomiting caused by chemotherapy drugs. Dopamine blocks receptors in the brain that triggers chemotherapy-related vomiting. The risk factors for taking this drug include muscle spasms and restlessness.

Serotonin Antagonists

New York University Langone Medical Center says serotonin antagonist block the affects of serotonin, a chemical in the brain and stomach. This chemotherapy nausea treatment relieves nausea caused by chemotherapy by repressing triggers that lead to this condition. Minimal side effects result from this treatment; however, serotonin antagonists' side effects include diarrhea and constipation, muscle cramps, nervousness, fatigue, and skin rashes.

Benzodiazepines

American Family Physicians states that doctors prescribe benzodiazepines for a variety of uses, including a chemotherapy nausea treatment. This anti-anxiety medication suppresses nausea when taken in conjunction with other medications. Cancer patients become more relaxed from this treatment. Side effects include confusion, dependency and withdrawal, low blood pressure, and drug toxicity.

Acupuncture

The Cleveland Clinic cites 11 clinical trials conducted by the National Institutes of Health stating that acupuncture, in combination with medication, works as a chemotherapy nausea treatment that improves patient's ability to withstand their treatment. The needles stimulate blood flow in the body, affecting the part of the brain that causes nausea and vomiting. Acupuncture produces no known side effects; however, patients should not stop taking other medications without doctor's permission.

Herbal Treatment

The Cleveland Clinics says that various herbs work as chemotherapy nausea treatments. Ginger has the reputation as being an anti-nausea treatment. People receiving chemotherapy treatments chew fresh slices of ginger or drink ginger tea to settle their stomachs. Other herbal supplements include caraway seeds and fennel tea.

Diagnose Pharyngitis

Pharyngitis, an inflammation of the throat, remains one of the most common reasons for seeking medical care. It is usually caused by a bacterial or viral infection, with group A Streptococcus being the most likely cause. Pharyngitis is not normally serious, but cases related to strep throat can have severe complications.

Instructions

1. Obtain the patient history. Streptococcal pharyngitis has an incubation period of two to five days, and patients typically experience an abrupt onset of symptoms that include chills, fever, headaches and a sore throat. Abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting also are common in children.

2. Conduct a physical examination. The most likely findings include a red, inflamed throat and uvula. Other common sighs of pharyngitis include swollen tonsils with grayish-white patches and swollen lymph nodes.

3. Take a throat culture by swabbing the tonsils and posterior pharynx vigorously, and culture the sample for two days in sheep blood agar. The false negative rate for a properly performed throat culture test is 5 to 10 percent.

4. Run rapid antigen detection tests. These tests are more expensive than throat cultures and can be completed in minutes at the bedside. Rapid antigen detection tests that use chemiluminescent DNA probes have sensitivities and specificities that are comparable to throat cultures.

5. Provide streptococcal antibody testing. Elevated streptococcal antibody levels will confirm a recent group A Streptococcus infection and also may be helpful in diagnosing complications such as acute rheumatic fever. The most common antibodies to test for are antideoxyribonuclease B and antistreptolysin O.

The History Of Hmos

A Health Maintenance Organization, or HMO, is an insurance plan available in the United States that links groups of consumers to a network of doctors. The consumers combine their buying power to lower the price of health care that they pay to the HMO, while the HMO pays the doctors for their services.

Birth of HMOs

The first place to offer the HMO model of health care was the Western Clinic in Tacoma, Washington. There, lumber mill employees were able to take advantages of the clinic's services in exchange for a per month premium. The first official HMO was the Ross-Loos Medical Group, which was established in 1929 in Los Angeles to provide health care for L.A. city employees.

Rise of the HMOs

HMO use steadily increased during the great depression and through the middle part of the twentieth century as insurance benefits were offered as an incentive to employees, as an alternative to raises, and to ensure a steady revenue stream to physicians.

Decline of the HMOs

Through the 1960s and 1970s, the utilization of the HMO began to decline.

Government Intervention

Due to the decline of the HMO, the United States government stepped in to rescue the industry. The result was that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services passed the HMO Act. This act gave grants to companies that wanted to start or expand an HMO, removed state restrictions on federally-certified HMOs and required employers with 25 or more full-time employees to offer HMO options. As a result of this last provision, the HMO began to grow rapidly.

HMOs Today

In 2008, managed health care enrollment was estimated at approximately 65 million members nationally. This is down from an all time high of 80 million people in 1999. The reason for this decline is the growth of alternatives to managed health care and overall consumer dissatisfaction with managed health care. However, due to government regulation, incentives and employer interest, the HMO industry remains healthy and the future outlook for the industry is strong.

Treat A Hangover With Acupressure

Acupressure is one of the many ways to let your fingers do the healing. Whereas acupuncture uses needles at certain meridians, or pressure points on the body, acupressure uses hand or finger pressure, but its goal is the same; to stimulate what Chinese health practitioners call chi, or the body's natural healing energy. In some ways acupressure can be more effective and rapid at healing than acupuncture. Basically the purpose is to apply a small but concentrated amount of pressure to a localized area in order to dissipate blockages within the chi energy. It is these blockages that cause physical pain and emotional discomfort. One of the other main advantages is that for the most part, and particularly for treating a hangover, you can apply it to yourself.

Instructions

Treat a Hangover With Acupressure

1. Many adults have experienced a hangover at some point in their life. The tell-tale symptoms include headache, irritability, nausea, fatigue, body aches, vomiting, dizziness, loss of appetite, diarrhea.

2. Get your fingers ready to do the healing. The middle finger is best suited to acupressure because it is the longest and it is strong. The thumb is also strong but it does not have the sensitivity of the middle finger. Sometimes however, when performing acupressure on yourself you will need to use both.

3. Before your start, make your hands into tight fists then stretch them out 3-4 times and rub them together to get them warmed up.

4. To relieve the headache and feelings of nausea left from a hangover you need to apply pressure to the webbed skin between your thumb and forefinger, close to the bone at the base of the index finger bone. This is known as point LI4. Hold this point firmly with your thumb on top of the webbing and your middle finger underneath. Apply pressure for one minute and then do the same for the other hand. Continue for a few minutes; you should soon notice results.

5. To relieve a headache and sensitivity to light, apply pressure to the upper ridge of each eye socket near the bridge of the nose. These are known as the B2 points. Gently squeeze the pressure point between your thumbs and middle finger, pressing upwards towards the hollows of the eye sockets. Hold for two or three minutes as you take slow, deep breaths.

What Is A Dolphin Aquarium Crossbite Appliance Used For

A crossbite appliance moves your teeth into proper alignment

Your orthodontist may use a crossbite appliance to move your teeth into proper alignment. She might illustrate how this appliance works using graphics designed by Dolphin Imaging and Management Solutions.

Clarification

Dolphin Aquarium does not make anterior crossbite appliances. Rather, Dolphin Aquarium is a graphical interface visualization tool operated by Dolphin Imaging and Management Systems that helps illustrate how a specific type of anterior crosspiece appliance functions. In fact, the company provides detailed 3D visualizations for a wide variety of dental and orthodontic procedures and appliances.

Definition

An anterior crossbite describes the medical term for a bite in which person's upper teeth fall behind the lower teeth. Properly aligned upper teeth should fall slightly ahead of the lower ones.

Function

A crossbite appliance fixes an incorrect bite. An orthodontic device is inserted into the roof of the mouth behind the upper teeth. Over time, as the appliance gets adjusted, the upper palette expands and teeth slowly move forward to fall into appropriate alignment. (See Resources for a visualization of how one kind of crossbite appliance works.)

Methods

Some orthodontic crossbite appliances are attached semi-permanently to the upper molars and adjusted by orthodontists. Others can be removed and adjusted by the patient.

Considerations

Removable appliances may become lost or damaged more easily than those permanently affixed in the mouth. Young patients will respond best to crossbite treatment since the upper jaw, which does not fully fuse together until adulthood, is more malleable.

Characteristics Of Genital Warts

Genital warts are one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. The virus that causes genital warts is the human papillomavirus or HPV. There are more than 40 types of HPV. Genital warts are not life threatening, but can cause discomfort at times.

Description

You can have the genital warts virus, HPV, and not have any visible warts. In fact, the warts can appear weeks or months after contact with a person who had the virus. When you do see a genital wart, it may vary in appearance. Most of the time they are small and the color of your skin. The warts can be flat, or large and raised and often have a grayish overtone. The wart can be a single wart or a cluster of warts, which causes a cauliflower-like appearance.

Location

Warts can be found anywhere in the genital area or upon the inner thighs. In women, the warts can infect the exterior genital area, the vulva, the interior of the vagina, anus and rarely, the cervix. On men, the warts can be on the tip or shaft of the penis, the scrotum or anus. Genital warts can appear in the throat or mouth if you have oral sex with a person with genital warts.

Symptoms

Genital warts are often very itchy. There may be burning or pain especially upon urination. You may feel discomfort during intercourse. They may bleed, especially if you scratch them or there is friction from your underclothing or during intercourse.

Go To Your Doctor

If you suspect you have genital warts, go to your doctor for a definitive diagnosis. Your doctor can look at them through a microscope, or colposcope, to make sure they are genital warts and provide you with an official diagnosis.

Complications of genital warts can arise during pregnancy. If your warts are numerous and large inside your vagina, it could make childbirth difficult. Moreover, on rare occasion, if the mother has genital warts, the baby may contract genital warts in his throat.

Treatment

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), "Warts may appear within weeks or months after sexual contact with an infected person. Or, they may not appear at all." You can catch genital warts by any type of sexual contact. You do not have to have intercourse to catch them. Genital warts often go away without treatment, but you will still be carrying the virus. Treatment is indicated if there is extreme itching or burning or if you are embarrassed by their appearance. Your doctor can give you topical creams that can help you get rid of the warts. He can also burn the warts off or surgically remove them. However, it should be noted that just because the warts are gone, doesn't mean you are HPV free, you will still be infected with the virus as it remains in your system forever. The warts may reappear later on, but in many cases the warts go dormant.

Prevention

Abstinence from all sexual contact is the only foolproof way from contracting genital warts. The second best way is to be in a completely monogamous relationship, where both partners have no sexual contact with anyone else. Wearing a condom only partially protects you, because the warts can be anywhere in the genital area, not just the penis or vagina.

Hepatitis B Symptoms In Men

Hepatitis B is one of the most serious blood diseases currently circulating in the population. It is a disease that used to fit into the STD category, but--though this is one of the ways in which it is transmitted--it can no longer fit comfortably, because of the range of ways in which the virus can be spread. It attacks the liver and can cause cirrhosis and death in patients. Vaccines against the virus are available.

Asymptomatic

The most important thing to understand about hepatitis B symptoms is that approximately 30 percent of those infected will experience none. Not at the beginning and potentially at no point throughout the life of the disease, until it is far too late for effective treatment options. This is especially true in men, for whom researchers gauge the number of asymptomatic infections could be as high as 50 percent. The disease is still infectious even if no symptoms are manifesting.

Stomach Ailments

Particularly when it comes to men, hepatitis B tends to show itself in symptoms affecting the digestive system. This litany of ailments can include mild to severe nausea, as well as a substantial loss in appetite. There may also be direct liver pain, which can also affect the stomach or be mistaken for stomach problems.

Colors

Doctors often refer to the three colors when speaking of hepatitis B symptoms. The things to watch out for are jaundice, in which the skin takes on a yellowish appearance; dark urine, even to the point of being the color of cola; and stool coloring, which can look paler than usual.

Liver Failure

Because hepatitis B attacks the liver, it is particularly important to be aware of the signs of liver failure, especially in men with the disease. Fluid retention is a common sign, particularly in the areas of the belly and the legs. Sudden weight gain may also be a sign. Bloody vomit and bleeding from other orifices such as the nose and rectum are common signs of liver deterioration.

Risk Factors

Because hepatitis B is so often without symptoms, it is important to be aware of the risky behaviors that the disease is associated with. If you or someone you know has engaged in promiscuous sex (particularly male homosexual sex), intravenous street drug use or have been in contact with someone who has the disease, you should be tested for hepatitis B as soon as possible.

Plan Nursing Care

Nurses create nursing care plans for each patient assigned under their care.

Nursing care plans include detailed instructions for the type, frequency and purpose of a patient's care. They include treatment orders, medication orders, preventative measures and orders for tests. Nurses create a care plan for each patient placed in their care. They use information collected during assessment to form a nursing diagnosis. Nurses use the nursing diagnosis to decide which nursing interventions are needed. Nursing interventions refer to the care and treatment performed by nurses.

Instructions

1. Nurses gather pertinent information by performing a physical assessment and asking the patient questions about his condition

Gather information needed to form nursing diagnoses. Ask the patient questions pertaining to their problem or symptoms. Review the patient's medical history and current medication list. Use the information to form a nursing diagnosis.

2. Create a nursing diagnosis. NANDA (North American Nursing Diagnosis Association) is involved in the development of medical terminology used to improve the quality of nursing care through the creation of nursing diagnoses and evidenced-based practice. Refer to the NANDA for a list of guidelines used to write nursing diagnosis statements. Write a nursing diagnostic for each problem experienced by the patient. Check each diagnosis to ensure it correct. Fix mistakes if found.

3. Nurses help patients change position to alleviate pressure and discomfort.

Choose the most effective nursing intervention for each symptom. This refers to the intervention that best treats, alleviates or prevents specific symptoms and conditions. For example, an effective nursing intervention for a patient suffering from a pressure ulcer on their buttocks includes alleviating pressure by using a special mattress and implementing a turn schedule.

4. Make a time schedule for treatments, medication administration and patient assessment. Create a medication schedule in compliance with the physician's order. If the patient is ordered diabetic medication taken twice per day, the nurse must determine what times the medicine should be taken to ensure two doses were received within a twenty-four hour period.

5. Add the completed nursing care plan to the patient's chart. Modify the care plan as necessary when changes in a patient's condition occur. Changes include deterioration in overall condition, difficulties or non-compliance with treatment. Adjust the care plan to include new nursing diagnostic statements and nursing interventions for any new problems that arise. Discontinue interventions when the patient's condition improves or when no longer effective.

Healing Crystals For Repressed Memories

Repressed memories are lost memories of things that happened to a person in this lifetime. A person may repress memories because it is their way of coping with a stressful or traumatic event. Crystals can be used to release and heal repressed memories.

Crystals

The crystals that are best used for healing repressed memories include agate, apophyllite, boji stones and phantom quartz.

Meditation

Use boji stones to meditate and heal repressed memories. In a quiet place free of interruptions hold two of these crystals in your hands. Close your eyes and think of the pain that these repressed memories are causing and ask for spiritual guidance in bringing these memories forward. As the memories come back accept them and release them.

Chakra Healing

Chakra healing is a form of healing that uses crystals and colors to balance the body's polarities. To heal repressed memories with chakra healing place an apophyllite crystal on the third chakra, which is the area on the forehead between the eyes.

Jewelry Healing

Agate, which is known as a healing stone, is great for removing pain and healing the mind. Wear agate on your body as earrings to ease the mind and as a necklace near the heart to heal the soul of repressed memories.

Phantom Quartz

Phantom quartz is by far the best crystal to use for weeding out repressed memories. It can get within the akashic records, an area of the mind that some people believe all of our universal memories are kept.

Qigong Exercises For Eyes

Qigong is an increasingly accepted ancient art of low-impact physical and mental exercises, boasting health benefits from increased vitality to cancer prevention. This venerable Chinese tradition offers extensive insight into vision improvement and eye health, providing help for a range of issues such as macular degeneration, myopia, eye strain and even legal blindness. These exercises are not intended to be executed in isolation but integrated into a lifestyle including healthful diet, sunlight, air and water intake, as well as physical activity and meditation. These are not quick fixes but long-term therapies that require diligent practice.

10 Minute Eye Relief

If possible, perform this exercise outside to gain balance between nature and your internal environment. If you cannot go outside, stand near a window where you can see at least one tree. You can sit or stand, as long as you are in a comfortable and well-grounded posture. With eyes open, shift your eyes to look as far left and then as far right as possible without moving your head. Repeat nine times. Move your eyes in clockwise circles, then counterclockwise, nine times each. Then, keeping your head still, look as far up and as far down as possible, also repeating nine times. All of these movements should be done very slowly.

Close your eyes and find the indention in the rim of your eye socket, just above the tear duct. Place your forefingers firmly into that indention and massage in nine tiny forward circles and then reverse the direction. Move your fingers down along the eye socket to the point just below your pupils. Massage first toward the nose, then away from the nose nine times each. Bring your fingertips to the meridian point in the center of each eyebrow, called the Zenzhu. Massage inward and outward nine times each.

Slowly open your eyes and find a tree or bush on which to focus, preferably about 30 feet away. Fix your gaze on a single leaf and stare for three to five minutes. Try to cultivate a feeling of peaceful gratitude. When time is up, rub your hands together briskly, creating some heat. Press the palms over your eyes to bring energy and heat into the eyes. End with a moment of gratitude for the tree and the time you have taken to help improve the health and appearance of your eyes.

Use An Emergency Safety Shower

Emergency safety showers are found in labs where workers are exposed to hazardous chemicals, toxic substances or flames. The emergency safety shower should be located in an easily accessible area, and all workers should be properly trained in use the safety shower as well as help others use it if they are incapacitated.

Emergency safety showers should be used in case of an emergency in the lab. Such emergencies include chemical splashes, spills or fire.

Instructions

1. Attend a training session on operate the emergency safety shower. These are usually taught by a supervisor or instructor and entail watching a video, reading a book or training guide and possibly taking a test. These steps will ensure you are trained in the proper use of a safety shower and will be able to use it properly in case of emergency. You should know what types of emergencies the shower is intended to be used for, including fire and chemical spills.

2. Ensure the emergency safety shower is accessible and nothing is blocking the path through the lab to the safety shower. There may be more than one emergency safety shower in a lab if the lab is very large. Know where all safety showers are in the lab, and make sure you know use each one if they are different.

3. Pull the handle attached to the cord to start the shower. Water will be dumped down, putting out flames or washing chemicals off the injured person. Be sure to remove any clothing that is affected by chemicals or flame, as you will not want these things touching the person's skin.

4. Rinse the body, targeting the affected area for at least 15 minutes to ensure the fire or traces of chemicals are completely washed from the victim. Water will keep flowing from the emergency shower until the shower is turned off. Most showers allow the user to stop the water flow by pushing the handle back up to the starting position.

5. Call a doctor or ambulance. Even if the fire is out, or the chemical is removed from the skin and clothing, there could still be damage to the victim. It is best to call an emergency medical unit to check out the victim and make sure he is OK. If chemicals are left on the skin, they could produce chemical burns if not treated.

1. Fill a bowl with warm water. Add a small amount of mild dish soap that does not include lemon scent. Harsh soaps and lemon-scented soaps weaken the nebulizer attachments. Set the bowl aside while you prepare the nebulizer parts for cleaning.

2. Disassemble the washable nebulizer attachments. Remove the hose from the mouthpiece or mask and set it aside. The hose is not washable and you want to keep it as dry as possible. Separate the mouthpiece or mask from the medicine chamber. Open the medicine chamber to complete the disassembly.

3. Place the nebulizer attachments in the bowl of warm water. It is unnecessary to soak them for a great length of time. Adequately run the soapy water through each piece to thoroughly clean it. Shake off the excess soapy water.

4. Rinse each nebulizer attachment. Run each clean piece under warm water to remove any remaining soapy residue. Lay the nebulizer parts on a clean paper towel and allow them to air dry. Do not dry the attachments with paper or cloth towels. Tiny fibers from the towels might contaminate the equipment.

5. Store the nebulizer in a hygienic bag. When the attachments are completely dry, reassemble the pieces and place them in a clean, dry plastic bag. Seal the bag and keep it closed until the next use.

What Does Mri Stand For

MRI stands for "magnetic resonance imaging." An MRI is used in the medical field and provides a strong contrast of soft tissues that most medical equipment like a CT or X-ray cannot provide. A strong and expensive magnet is used to scan the body's healthy and diseased tissue. These machines may cost in the millions and will have varied strengths depending on the medical need for the scan.

History

The first MRI was used on a human in 1977, making this technology one of the newest in medical imagery.

Function

Since the body is made mostly of water, the magnetic field created by the MRI scans the protons and hydrogen nuclei of the body's water molecules with the direction of the magnetic field. The protons then absorb the energy of a second radiofrequency electromagnetic and releases a radiofrequency which can be detected by the MRI's scanner.

Considerations

Consider using an "open MRI" if you have a fear of closed spaces or are very overweight. The magnetic imaging is not as strong, but you will have more room to breath in the close quarters.

Benefits

MRI can diagnose conditions including cancer, vascular disease and other internal abnormalities. The MRI can view diseased tissues that may be hidden from bones. Sick tissues such as tumors are identified as the protons scanned return to their equilibrium at a different rate than healthy tissue.

Warning

Alert your medical professional if you have any metal objects embedded in your body or are pregnant. If sedation is used, there is a chance of over sedation and a risk to your breathing abilities. Some patients have reported an allergic reaction to the injected contrast fluid. Alert your medical professional if you have severe headaches, itching or other allergic symptoms.

Relieve Bloating During A Period

Relieve Bloating During a Period

The bloating, the irritability and the back pain of your period can be trying. You can relieve the bloating of your next period with a few simple steps, and they also will help relieve the pain that bedevils you every month.

Instructions

1. Take aloe vera pills. They can be found in most health food stores, and they will help your body process water more quickly during a period.

2. Avoid salt and sodium, as they make your body retain water. Use other flavorings to spice up your food. Read labels on pre-packaged foods to see if they contain "hidden" sodium.

3. Get lots of vitamins A and B6. These mild diuretics aid in processing water and getting it out of your system to relieve bloating.

4. Watch what you eat. Stay away from chocolate, caffeine and refined sugars. Poor nutrition increases water retention. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables to relieve bloating.

5. Sweat to get rid of excess water, but continue to drink water while you work out.

6. Drink chamomile tea. The herbs will soothe some of the pain caused by your period, and the mild diuretic effect will relieve the bloating.

What Venomous Spiders Are In Washington State

According to the Washington State University Extension, the only venomous spider in Washington that is dangerous to humans is the western black widow (Latrodectus hesperus). Mostly, these spiders are found in Eastern Washington, with just a few showing up in Western Washington.

Definition

Spiders are arachnids with fangs that inject venom when they bite. Therefore, "venomous" is the proper term in relation to spiders, and some are more dangerous than others.

Allergic Reactions

Even though a spider may not be venomous, some people can have an allergic reaction to even non-venomous spider bites.

Hobo Spider

The most common spider in Western Washington is the "hobo spider" (Tegenaria agrestis), also called the aggressive house spider. This spider can cause a severe reaction in someone who is allergic to spider venom.

Spider Identification

If you are bitten by a spider and can trap it, take it to the County Extension Office for identification.

Medical Attention

If you are bitten by a spider and it causes more than a mild irritation, seek medical advice.

How Does Stool Get Impacted

How it Happens

Chronic constipation can cause the stool to get impacted in the bowel, making it so hard that it may be impossible to move the mass without medical assistance. When this happens, watery stool may move around the obstruction causing unintentional bowel movements and soiling of the clothing. Those patients who are most vulnerable to this condition are those who take narcotic pain medications of any kind, Methadone, medications for the nervous system, diarrhea prevention medications, and those people who have a limited range of motion, like patients with dementia or those with cerebral palsy and other nervous system conditions.

Drink Enough Water

Another cause of stool impaction can be decreased water intake, because the body extracts water from its cells in order to promote bowel movement. If there is not enough water in the body in the first place there will not be enough to create a healthy bowel movement. It can help to increase not only fluid intake, but fiber as well, from whole-wheat grains, bran, fruits and vegetables, which can add bulk to the stool, helping you to regain normal bowel movements.

Movement Creates a Movement

To maintain a healthy bowel function you need to get enough exercise, even if you are confined to a wheelchair or a bed. There are low impact exercises that you can do from those positions, such as changing position, performing abdominal crunches and leg raises, if you can do so. Physical therapy can help for those who are unable to move on their own. However it is done, the exercises should be done several times each day to promote the best possible bowel health.

Causes Of Severe Heartburn

Severe heartburn may cause discomfort, and may make it difficult to go about normal daily activities and get needed rest. The causes of severe heartburn vary, and include lifestyle factors, consumption of certain types of foods and beverages, and other medical conditions that may affect the stomach. Consider these facts from the Mayo Clinic about the causes of severe heartburn.

Alcohol

Chronic drinking of alcohol can inflame the throat and stomach, which may allow stomach acid to leak into the esophagus and cause severe heartburn.

Smoking

Inhaling smoke from tobacco products causes internal inflammation and irritation to the throat and stomach, which can cause or worsen heartburn.

Medications

Medications used for high blood pressure, depression and sleep disorders may relax the muscles of the stomach and cause irritations that produce severe heartburn.

Spices

Spices such as curry or garlic, or capsaicin in chili, habanero or jalapeno peppers can cause severe heartburn due to chemical irritation of the stomach and throat.

Caffeine

Beverages such as coffee or soda as well as foods such as chocolate that have caffeine can irritate the stomach and cause severe heartburn.

Hiatial Hernia

Hiatial hernia is a medical term for the stomach shifting or being pushed into the lower abdomen, which can cause heartburn or make existing heartburn worse.

Pregnancy

Pressure and crowding of the stomach can be caused by pregnancy, which can result in severe heartburn, especially in the last trimester.

Engineered Quartz Vs Natural Quartz Countertops

The difference between engineered quartz and natural quartz is not their source. They are both derived from the same mineral, mined from the earth. While the manufactured variety contains additives, it is mostly composed of the original stone.

Natural quartz, while beautiful, is not as strong as granite, a top contender among stone countertop materials. You will rarely see cut quartz used for kitchen or bath surfaces. Engineered quartz, however, is popular and widely available.

Composition

A stone countertop production process turns crushed quartz crystals into designer work surfaces. The combination of 93 percent natural quartz with resins and pigments creates a smooth and strong slab. It blends the quartz with the versatility of a wider color palette than nature provides. Some products also add an anti-microbial agent, making engineered quartz surfaces safer for food preparation in restaurants and institutions. At home, it offers the same safety, strength and decorative possibilities.

Colors

The ability of manufactured quartz to accept pigments lets it go where fashion dictates. Imagine delicious shades from green apple to raspberry sorbet. Manufacturers offer as many as 50 color choices. Traditional natural quartz colors and patterns are available as well. These include gradations of rose, violet, goldenrod and gray. You'll see sparkles and swirls and veins in this beautiful natural stone product.

Details

Patterns in engineered quartz are natural or formed to mimic granite and marble stone countertops. The bonuses are less expense and maintenance, and greater environmental soundness.

Manufactured quartz is made locally in the United States by Cambria, which has been certified by GreenGuard and other green building institutions. Its nonporous surface does not require periodic sealing, as granite and marble do. Quartz countertops can be cut to nearly any custom size and shape.

Durability

Stone countertops are prized for their longevity, but it's how long their good looks last that make them winners with consumers. Manufactured stone slabs won't develop dips or depressions as marble can with long-term use.

Quartz countertops are billed as being more resistant to heat, scratches and some liquids than other natural stone surfaces. With periodic soap-and-water cleaning, their hard and smooth surfaces retain their luster along with their functionality in the kitchen. Some manufacturers offer a lifetime guarantee.

Drawbacks

As with many reconstituted natural products, the quartz engineering process may fail or the composite materials may not retain their original quality over time. Some quartz countertops are simply "lemons." Dissatisfied homeowners report installed kitchen or bathroom slabs that shattered, chipped and stained.

While generally high-tolerance and low-maintenance, quartz countertops are not immune to scorching, scratching and discoloring. Acidic liquids and sunlight can cause their otherwise colorfast surfaces to fade. Light maintenance can prevent cosmetic problems.

Irritable Bowel Diagnosis

Irritable bowel is one of the most common disorders affecting the large intestine. According to the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, about one in five Americans suffer from the condition. The disorder is more common in women. Though IBS causes symptoms such as cramping, diarrhea, bloating, gas and constipation, IBS doesn't lead to serious complications like cancer. Making a diagnosis for the condition may require multiple tests to make a definitive diagnosis.

Rome Criteria

The Rome criteria is an identifying criteria for IBS and other gastrointestinal disorders. According to the Mayo Clinic, specific signs and symptoms must be identified with the Rome criteria before a doctor can diagnose IBS. Under this criteria, you must have abdominal cramping and pain that lasts for almost 12 weeks. You also must meet two of the following requirements: a change in your stool habits, such as having normal stools to having loose stools, straining when trying to have a bowel movement, mucus within the stool, or bloating.

Lactose Tests

In order to digest sugars found within dairy products, you need an enzyme known as lactase. If your body isn't capable to produce this enzyme, you can have symptoms that are similar to IBS. You'll need to take a test that is much like a breathalyzer to see if you excrete the enzyme in your breath. You then may need to abstain from dairy products for a few weeks. If not eating dairy helps improve your symptoms, then you're lactose intolerant. However, if you continue to suffer from symptoms, the diagnosis will lean toward IBS.

Blood Tests

Your doctor may take samples of your blood to rule out other medical conditions. According to the Mayo Clinic, you may be checked for Celiac disease, which is a sensitivity to wheat. Celiac disease can mimic symptoms and signs of IBS. You also may be asked to abstain from products that contain wheat for a few weeks to confirm a diagnosis of Celiac disease. If the blood tests come back negative, and you still have symptoms, an IBS diagnosis is likely.

Other Tests

You may undergo additional tests to rule out other conditions. Stool samples may be ordered to check for any possible intestinal infections, or you could undergo a colonscopy to examine your colon. A flexible sigmoidoscopy is used to examine the lower part of the colon, known as the sigmoid. A CT scan also may be ordered to examine your abdomen and pelvis to make sure there are no tumors.

Self Help

Simple measures can help offer you relief from IBS. Dietary changes can often provide long-term relief. It will take some time to experiment with your diet before you can find a resolution that works. Often fiber can help with IBS. According to the Mayo Clinic, you should take Metamucil and Citrucel. The key is to gradually incorporate fiber into your diet so you don't suffer from additional cramping and gas. Some foods can trigger symptoms. These foods include alcohol, chocolate, caffeine, dairy, cabbage, beans and broccoli. Avoiding these foods can help relieve symptoms.

Causes Of High Cortisol Levels

Cortisol, a hormone generated by the adrenal glands, packs a big punch. It helps to keep blood pressure in check, control insulin release and glucose metabolism, manage stress upon the body and it's a force-to-be reckoned with when it comes to our immuno-health. No small wonder then that the American Medical Association reports that high cortisol levels are responsible for more than 80 debilitating diseases, including Cushing's syndrome. Those with high cortisol levels often display excess pounds around the middle, an "apple shape." Memory may be impaired, fatigue is common and over the longer term, these high levels can damage one's immunity, make one's bones brittle and lead to heart disease and other dangerous conditions. Its causes are many, making proper identification of the source of this condition all the more important so one can then get the proper course of therapies and treatment.

Stress

You can't talk about high cortisol levels without talking about stress. Cortisol is actually produced as a way to help the body respond to both physical and emotional stress. In order to produce cortisol levels that are high enough to be of concern, the body must be under prolonged stress for some time. Of course, we know stress can take a toll on our health, but from a cortisol perspective, it can actually impair the body's ability to defend against infection and to utilize our fats and sugars for energy.

Hyperthyroidism

As its name suggests, this condition impairs functioning of the thyroid, whereby the thyroid gland makes the hormone, thyroxine, in excess of what it should. The result: It's like the body is working in over-time. The heart rate speeds up, those with it suffer from insomnia, rapid weight loss and weakness.

Pituitary Dysfunction

The pituitary gland works like the manager of the endocrine system, controlling how much of a hormone is secreted. Things can go wrong. For starters, a benign tumor, called an adenoma, may result and, in turn, stimulate the over-production of cortisol into the blood. If you have this type of tumor, odds are you're a woman, as women are five times more likely than men to develop this condition. On the other hand, tumors which are located outside of the pituitary gland, those which are ectopic in nature, are more likely to afflict men than women. Unlike an adenoma, these tumors may be cancerous.

Adrenal Malfunction

The adrenal glands, located at the top of the kidneys, are actually responsible for helping the body manage stress through the release of hormones, chiefly cortisol and epinephrine. There are two primary ways the adrenal gland can go haywire: Through an adrenal tumor or an adrenal cancer. The first option is the most common and prompts an increase of cortisol into the blood. Adrenal cancers cause more pronounced and rapid increases in hormone levels.

Pregnancy

As the stress shoots up, the levels of cortisol shoot up. And the body undergoes major stresses during pregnancy. Researchers have found that in the final three months of pregnancy, cortisol levels increase dramatically.

Physical Activity

Physical fitness is good for us, but it can also cause some overlooked consequences. As athletes begin to step up their mileage and their work-outs, the production of cortisol is also stepped-up. It's believed that this is the body's response to coping with the stress that is placed on the body of an athlete that is highly trained. Conversely, mental and emotional exhaustion has also been known to stimulate the over-production of cortisol into the blood. It's for this reason that many with panic disorders and depression are also known to have high levels.

Medications

If you are diagnosed with high levels of cortisol, it's not always cause for concern. Some medications, including oral contraceptives, are well-documented to have impacts on cortisol levels. Hydrocortison, a synthetic form of cortisol, can also impact one's levels, as well as spironalactone, a drug whose many uses include treatment of male-pattern baldness and acne.

Genital Warts Treatment Alternatives

Thirty percent of genital warts will clear up on their own, without any treatment. If you have genital warts that are not disappearing on their own and they are painful, itchy or uncomfortable, you may want to look at treatment alternatives. Even though these warts are caused by a virus and may return after removal, you will at least be able to get some relief through an appropriate medical treatment.

Medication

There are various topical medications that can relieve genital warts. Imiquimod is a cream that helps your immune system fight the warts. However, it should not be used before sex because it can irritate the other person's skin. It may also weaken diaphragms or condoms, resulting in failure of these birth control methods. Podophyllin is a medication that must be applied by a doctor. It removes the wart by destroying its tissue. Podofilox is a similar substance that can be applied at home. Trichloroacetic acid is a chemical that will burn away genital warts. It can only be used by doctors.

Freezing

Genital warts may be frozen with liquid nitrogen, which causes formation of a blister around the wart. As the blister heals, the wart tissue will fall off and new skin will grow in its place. This treatment is performed by a doctor, and it may require several sessions to be effective.

Surgery

There are several surgical options for genital wart treatment. An electrical current may be used by the doctor to burn away the warts in a surgical procedure called electrocautery. The doctor can also administer a local anesthetic and cut away the warts. Laser surgery is an option, but it is expensive when compared to other methods. Because of this, it is usually used in cases that don't respond to other treatments.

Find Staurolite Crystals

Staurolite is a member of the neosilicate family of minerals, in the same subgroup as topaz and andalusite. It is opaque, ranging from red brown to black. Its name comes from the Greek "stauros," because it commonly contains twinned crystals, a term for two crystals overlapping in a symmetrical way. It is the official state mineral of Georgia. Staurolites are also called "fairy stones" because of a legend that they are the crystallized tears of fairies weeping after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Instructions

Where to look

1. Look for staurolite crystals in mountainous regions with metamorphic bedrock. In the United States, the most highly prized specimens have been found in Virginia, Georgia, New Mexico and Massachusetts. Any part of the Appalachian or Blue Ridge Mountains is a good place to look. Fairy Stone state park near Martinsville, Virginia, is named for the staurolites found there. Visitors are allowed to take stones as long as they don't dig for them. Staurolite Canyon, near Taos, New Mexico, is another good destination. Fannin County, Georgia, is also a staurolite hotspot.

2. Look for other minerals which are often found with staurolite: almandine garnet, mica, kyanite, albite, biotite, tourmaline and muscovite. If you have permission to dig (which means not in a state or national park), use a pick to break apart schists and gneiss -- staurolites often form in conjunction with these types of metamorphic rock.

3. Seek out stream beds and other areas with lots of loose rocks. These are the best places to go because fresh staurolites are constantly being exposed by water erosion.

Identification

4. Look for small stones which seem to have a four-sided crystalline shape. The twinned "cross-shaped" crystals of a typical staurolite are at a 60- or 90-degree angle to each other.

5. Feel the surface of your mineral sample. It should be rough, and may have a swiss-cheese appearance. Its color is most commonly reddish brown to blackish brown, but can also be found in yellowish brown or even blue.

6. Scrape your mineral sample across a hard, unweathered surface. If you have a streak plate, this is the time to use it. If you don't, any unglazed porcelain tile, bowl, or vase will do. This technique is called "streaking." Whole minerals are often widely variable in color, but the finely ground powder which is left behind by streaking usually has a more consistent color. Staurolite streaks white or grey, though its hardness may make it difficult to streak properly. In this case, use a hammer or a file to crush or scrape some powder from the sample, and rub this on the streak plate.

Kill Mildew With Essential Oils

Fragrant essential oils also have mildew-killing properties.

Mildew removal instructions often call for the use of harsh cleaners and chemicals. While these products are effective, they can irritate the skin and pose danger to children and pets. Many home remedies are effective at removing mildew, including one that uses essential oils. Essential oils have benefits that go far beyond their pleasant aromas. Many essential oils have antiseptic and anti-fungal properties that help successfully kill mildew and its accompanying odor.

Instructions

1. Pour 1 cup water into a spray bottle. Add 20 drops of tea tree essential oil. Close the spray bottle and shake the mixture.

2. Spray bathroom surfaces once every couple weeks to keep mildew at bay.

Spray the tea tree oil solution on surfaces with mildew and mold. Let the essential oil spray dry on the surface. The anti-fungal spray kills mold and mildew spores so they can't spread further.

3. Dampen a clean cloth with water. Wipe down your surfaces to remove the dead mildew spores and accompanying stains. Dry the surfaces with a clean, dry cloth.

Read Thyroid Blood Test Results

The thyroid is a very complicated gland. It is responsible for producing hormones that direct our metabolism. As a result, symptoms of low thyroid function are a persistent feeling of coldness, lethargy and weight gain. People with an overactive thyroid will feel hot, somewhat jittery and will lose weight. Thyroid blood tests can help diagnose thyroid imbalances as well as the cause of the thyroid dysfunction.

Instructions

read thyroid blood test results.

1. Look at your TSH levels. TSH stands for thyroid stimulating hormone, and is normally between 0.5 and 5.5. TSH is responsible for the generation of the hormones that are in step 2.

2. Examine the levels of T3 and T4. These are the hormones that are actually responsible for the thyroid's effects. They are usually measured as "Free T3" and "Free T4," because the other tests can be easily thrown off by medications. T4 is normally at 0.8 to 1.8. T3 is four times as potent as T3 and is normally between 230 and 420.

3. Look at the relative levels of TSH and T3 and T4. If your TSH levels are low and your T3 and T4 levels are high, it means you are abnormally producing T3 and T4, which is causing your TSH levels to be suppressed. If your T3 and T4 levels are low along with low TSH levels, you aren't producing enough TSH. Finally, if your T3 and T4 levels are low and your TSH levels are high, you are just having trouble making T3 and T4.

4. Look at your ratio of T3 to T4. T3 is made from T4, and if your free T3 levels are low but your free T4 levels are high, you're having trouble with the conversion. Since T3 is more potent than T4, a problem with the conversion will give you overall low thyroid function.

5. Look for other tests that have been run. In some cases, other tests will also be run for compounds such as antibodies, free thyroxine index, thyroglobulin, and other blood tests. They may be ordered for certain suspected conditions, such as thyroid cancer, Hashimoto's thyroiditis and other diseases.

Definition Of Health Education

Health education is the process by which people learn about their health and more specifically, improve their health. Many different types of people provide health education and there are many different ways health education is delivered, based on various behavioral change models. Health education is critically important in improving the health of communities and individuals.

Results

Health education attempts to increase knowledge on the subject. An increase in knowledge on the subject leads to a change in attitudes about healthy and unhealthy behaviors. This change in attitude ideally leads to a change in behaviors from unhealthy to healthy, leading to an improvement in health, which is the ultimate goal of health education.

Health Care Providers

Doctors, nurses, physician's assistants and nurse practitioners often provide one on one health education to patients on behaviors that improve their health.

Health Teachers

Health education is often provided to youth in schools in the format of a regular weekly class.

Health Educators

Another group that provides health education is health educators. These professionals differ from health teachers in that they focus on behavior change and do not work in a school class format. Health educators may work with individuals or groups.

Scope

Health education encompasses not only the information on what behaviors are healthy, but also achieve those behaviors with skills development and can sometimes include motivation to change. For example, in addition to knowing what foods are healthy, know prepare those foods, and easy ways to incorporate them into your diet. All these aspects together are more likely to result in behavior changes that lead to improved health.

What Are The Causes Of Yeast Infections In Toddler Girls

Yeast is fungus that is naturally found on the human body. When too much yeast grows, a yeast infection can occur. Yeast infections are caused by a variety of reasons and they are easy to treat. It is important to note that women are not the only ones who get yeast infections. Men and children (such as toddler girls) can also get yeast infections.

Antibitoics and Children

When a child takes antibiotics, healthy bacteria may be killed and too much yeast may begin to grow.

Antibiotics and Mothers

When a nursing mother takes antibiotics, her child may develop a yeast infection. This can happen if too much of the child's healthy bacteria is killed and too much yeast beings to grow.

Diaper Rash

A child may develop a yeast infection if they have diaper rash, because yeast thrive in warm and moist environments.

Common Child Yeast Infections

In children, the most common yeast infections occur in the mouth or genitals.

Tight Undergarments

Undergarments which are too tight can cause the genital area to become warm and moist, sometimes resulting in yeast infections.

Treatment

Anti-fungal topical creams work well to treat genital yeast infections. Oral yeast infections can be treated with prescription medication.

Pediatrician

A pediatrician should be seen if a child's yeast infection does not seem to be clearing up within a couple of days. Also, a pediatrician should been seen to accurately diagnose a child's yeast infection.

Identify Low Testosterone Levels

In the last several years our understanding of low testosterone in men has changed. The medical profession has generally believed that, as men age, many of the changes they experience are due to the aging process rather than to hormonal changes such as are seen in women during menopause. Twenty to fifty percent of healthy men between the ages of 50 and 70 have lower than normal levels of testosterone. In men, mid-life hormone changes usually begin without notice, especially after the age of forty. Unfortunately, the only obvious result may be the gradual assumption of the appearance of an old man.

Instructions

Identify Low Testosterone Levels

1. Be aware of any decrease in body mass and strength. Muscle tissue is lost when testosterone levels decrease.

2. Watch for mood or emotional changes. If you feel depressed for no reason. If your depression is beyond just a 'blue' feeling occasionally, it may be a result of low testosterone levels. See your MD.

3. Watch your weight. Increasing body fat can indicate low testosterone levels. If you see that you are gaining weight for no particular reason, it could be an indication of low testosterone levels.

4. Have a bone mineral density test. Low bone density can lead to osteoporosis and easy bone breakage.

5. Most men notice a decline in sexual desire and performance. This is when a man will seek medical attention and a prescription for the 'little blue pill' that will help him with sexual performance problems.

6. Watch for a low energy level. This may be a symptom of other physical problems, but when combined with all or some of the above symptoms, it may be testosterone levels decreasing.

Causes Of Anorexia In Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever

Dengue hemorrhagic fever can occur as a severe complication of the dengue fever virus. Anorexia (in this context, loss of appetite and weight loss) is one of many dangerous effects of this serious, and sometimes fatal, illness. Loss of appetite is one of the early symptoms of the virus and it may, when accompanied by vomiting, cause extreme weight loss.

Identification

Dengue fever is diagnosed by a blood test. However, physicians will usually assume that patients who exhibit symptoms, in any region outbreaks commonly occur, have dengue fever.

According to the Center for Disease Control these symptoms include, sudden high fever, rash, joint pain, severe headache and eye pain. If it is the more serious hemorrhagic fever, excitability and small specks of blood, caused by capillary bleeding, may appear beneath the skin. Bruises may appear and the nose and gums may bleed easily.

Features

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is caused by the dengue virus, and is usually transmitted to people via a mosquito bite. The aedus aegypti mosquitoes are the most common carriers. These mosquitoes acquire the pathogen after biting a dengue-infected person.

Effects

Dengue hemorrhagic fever causes weight loss due to the patient's loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea. Decreased appetite may last even after other symptoms have gone. Fluids lost through hemorrhage, vomit and diarrhea upset the electrolyte balance, which often sends the patient into shock. Internal hemorrhaging can also occur, which increases the likelihood of shock.

Although complications from this virus are not always fatal, the risk is naturally higher for those who don't get medical attention. Long-term effects of dengue fever are often mild and the disease is rarely fatal. Long-term effects of dengue hemorrhagic fever, however, can include damage to the brain and other organs, especially if medical help was delayed.

Prevention/Solution

Prevent dengue fever by preventing mosquito bites, especially in areas where the Aedus mosquito is common. Those who've had the virus once should take extra precautions not to contract it again since re-infection may lead to hemorrhagic fever.

Medical personnel treat dengue hemorrhagic fever patients with fluids, either orally or intravenously, and, sometimes, blood transfusions.

Loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea all throw electrolytes off-balance, and can lead to shock. Therefore, physicians also prescribe supplemental electrolyte solutions when necessary.

Pain medicine is often used to keep patients as comfortable as possible.

Considerations

Although dengue outbreaks are not common in the United States, the mosquito that can carry the virus lives in many states, and outbreaks do occur occasionally.

Four kinds of the dengue virus exist. Anyone can contract dengue fever more than once, as the body won't develop immunity to all via exposure to one. In fact, those who've had a prior case of dengue fever are at higher risk for a more severe case if they acquire the virus again.

Geography

According to the CDC and the World Health Organization, dengue fever is most common in warm tropical climates. This includes parts of Asia, namely China, Singapore and Thailand, areas in Africa, and Central and South America, namely Brazil, Colombia and Puerto Rico. Some cases have occurred in the United States. Wherever the aedus mosquito exists, dengue outbreaks can occur.

Meniere'S Disease Causes

The inner ear includes a hollow structure called the membranous labyrinth. This structure is filled with fluid called endolymph. Endolymph normally moves as the person moves the head. The fluid washes over the inner ear's hair cells, which transmit the information to the brain. The inner ear works best when it contains the proper amount of endolymph at the proper pressure. Sometimes, although doctors aren't certain why, the amount of fluid increases. This is called endolymphatic hydrops, or idopathic endolymphatic hydrops ("idopathic" simply means "cause unknown).

Due to the excess fluid, the membranous labyrinth swells. The increased pressure of the fluid flattens the hair cells within the membrane and causes them to fire off confusing messages to the brain. In addition, the swelling may make the membrane leak, or may rupture it entirely. Not only does that affect the function of the labyrinth but it also damages the cells nearby because the endolymph is very high in potassium, which is toxic to most cells.

Because the chemical makeup of endolymph is different from that of other fluids in the area, it disrupts their normal function when it mixes with them.

As a result, the person may experience a ringing or roaring in the ears, severe dizziness, or vertigo. He may also feel like the affected ear is stuffy or full.

Meniere's disease cannot be tested for nor cured, but it can be treated. A low- or no-salt diet will cut down on the amount of fluid the body retains; this solution helps relieve symptoms for many patients.

For those who have persistent vertigo, surgery may be required. Removing the membranous labyrinth is an option; however, this procedure destroys hearing. However, cutting certain nerves within the inner ear (a vestibular neurectomy) can relieve vertigo without sacrificing hearing.

The Uses For Menthol Crystals

Menthol crystals are formed when peppermint oil is distilled by steam. The resulting crystals are clear and colorless. Menthol crystals can be used to alleviate a variety of aches, pains and other ailments. They can be stored for up to three years, provided they are not exposed to high levels of heat or humidity.

Topical Analgesic

A topical analgesic is a cream or a gel that is applied to the skin to ease pain almost instantly. Menthol crystals are often an active ingredient in topical analgesics. Researchers initially thought that menthol crystals were effective because they stimulate the larger nerve fibers, causing them to override the pain message that smaller nerve fibers send to the brain. There is now some debate as to whether or not the menthol actually effects the smaller fibers, thus ending the need for the pain message to be sent at all.

Oral Hygiene/Bad Breath

Menthol has antiseptic properties, which means it can be effective in killing germs and preventing infection. Because of this, it is often added to oral hygiene products, such as toothpaste, dental floss and mouthwash. It can kill the germs that cause bad breath and leave the mouth with a cool feeling. Menthol can also be used to lessen the pain of a toothache.

Decongestant

Menthol can be used to alleviate congestion in the nasal passages and in the chest. It thins the mucus and loosens it, making it easier for the body to expel it. Menthol is also effective at easing the pain of a sore throat. Cold relief products such as Vicks VapoRub, certain cough drops, and some types of facial tissue contain menthol.

Other Uses

Menthol has many other uses as well. Some cigarettes have menthol added to increase flavor, though a benefit is that it also can limit the irritation to the throat caused by smoking. It is also used to flavor candy and gum. Menthol's cooling properties work to ease the pain of sunburn. It can also be used as a topical cream to reduce itching. Some shampoos, lotions and lip balms contain menthol.
