A person who goes for many years with untreated and undiagnosed syphilis can develop a brain and/or spinal cord infection named neurosyphilis. Neurosyphilis usually starts 10 to 20 years after the person has been infected with the disease. It is a life-threatening complication of syphilis, but not all with the sexually transmitted disease get neurosyphilis. There are two types of the disorder: asymptomatic and meningovascular. As the name suggests, a person with the asymptomatic type will not have any symptoms, but the disease can be seen in the spinal fluid. These steps deal with the symptoms associated with the meningovascular form of neurosyphilis.
Instructions
1. Check for physical symptoms. An infected person may have headaches, neck stiffness, vision problems, changes in the way he walks, problems with incontinence, weakness in the lower body and general muscle weakness.
2. Look for personality changes. Mentally, the person might be grumpy or unusually irritable. She might also have dementia, confusion, issues with concentration or other changes to her mental state.
3. Note the signs in the later stages. The person may be unable to walk and might suffer from seizures or tumors.
4. See a doctor for a blood test and/or spinal fluid test if you believe you or a loved one has this disorder.
Caring for an individual suffering from attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder is never easy, but it can be made easier through the use of behavior modification techniques. As opposed to the older paradigm that recommends medication for those suffering from this disease, behavior modification is a series of techniques designed to eliminate negative behaviors, reinforce positive behaviors and teach the individual coping skills to overcome their malady.
How Behavior Modification Works
Behavior modification replaces or alters undesirable behaviors through the use of negative or positive reinforcement. Through consistent and persistent application of reinforcement techniques, the target behavior is eventually altered to comply with the desired standard. But what exactly are negative and positive reinforcement methods?
Negative reinforcement consists primarily of "removal" actions---that is to say, actions that deprive the subject of something. For example, you might say to the subject, "Clean your room or you cannot go out tonight." The subject is motivated through threat of an undesirable consequence.
Positive reinforcement, on the other hand, consists of "addition" actions, usually in the form of desired extras designed to motivate the individual to comply with the desired behavior. For example, you might say to the subject, "If you clean your room, we will get ice cream." While positive reinforcement can consist of more than solely tangible rewards, those are usually the most concrete and well-understood examples.
Choosing a Target Behavior
Behavior modification for ADHD can come from a variety of different sources, including parents and schoolteachers, but all effective behavior modification techniques share some commonalities.
First of all, it should be noted that while it is possible to modify one behavior at a time, it is likewise impossible to modify multiple behaviors simultaneously. To that end, it is best to choose the most disruptive or troublesome behavior, deal with that first and move down the list in descending priority.
Selecting an Enforcement Scheme
Once a target behavior has been selected, the reinforcement scheme should be decided upon in advance. There is nothing less conducive to effective behavior modification than a reinforcement scheme that seems capricious to the subject, or is enforced emotionally (as opposed to rationally) on the part of the administrator. An effective reward scheme will focus mostly on positive reinforcement, but some negative reinforcement should be included as well. By using both the "stick" and the "carrot," you are more likely to encourage your target behavior. When deciding on reinforcement methods, reasonableness is the key. There is no need to reward someone with a new car for putting away laundry or doing homework, and no need to ground someone for three months for failing to do so. Select a reward/punishment scheme you can administer justly to increase the likelihood of compliance.
Applying the Enforcement Scheme
Both positive and negative reinforcement methods must be applied consistently and calmly. Individuals tend to mirror emotions, so where rewards and punishments are doled out calmly, it is far more likely that one will receive a calm reaction, and thereby acceptance of the new regime in return.
Altering the Plan as Needed
Do not be afraid to change things up on the fly. Where one observes that the chosen rewards are no longer motivating or chosen punishments are no longer threatening, do not be afraid to alter the plan to boost the rate of compliance. The plan is just a means to an end, and should never be seen as something set in stone. The only recommendation is that you make all changes with full transparency and never blindside the individual with altered rewards or punishments, lest they lose faith in the system, resulting in a total breakdown of efficiency.
You don't need to stock up on heavy, smelly chemicals to clean mold in your home. Instead, create your own peroxide-and-water mix to clean mold away and stop it from coming back.
Function
Remove hydrogen peroxide from your home using a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water. Fill a spray bottle halfway with a 30 percent peroxide solution, and then fill it the rest of the way with water. Use this mixture to spray down the moldy area in your home. Wait an hour, and then spray the area down again. Wipe away any remaining mold with a sponge.
Prevention/Solution
Prevent mold from returning to problem areas by using a peroxide-and-water mix as maintenance cleaner. Using a solution of one part 35 percent peroxide to three parts water, spray down your shower or tub every week to stop mold from gaining a foothold in your home.
Considerations
Hydrogen peroxide that is labeled "food-grade" works well as a cleaning supply. If you have colored grout, do not use a peroxide-and-water mix to clean mold -- it can bleach out the color of the grout so the cleaned area will not match the rest of the bathroom. Instead, try using a mix of white vinegar and water in those areas.
Rectal cancer, or colon cancer, affects the digestive system. The rectum is the last six feet of the large intestine. There are five stages of rectal cancer, from the first abnormal cells to the final stage, which is very developed.
Stage 0
During Stage 0 of colon cancer, abnormal cells have been found in the colon's lining. The abnormality is found only in the colon.
Stage I
In Stage I, the abnormal cells have become cancerous. They can be found not only in the lining of the colon, but also in the middle layers of tissue.
Stage II
Stage IIA signifies that the cancer is not only in the colon, but nearby tissues as well. In Stage IIB, the cancer has spread to nearby organs or into the abdomen.
Stage III
In Stage IIIA, the cancer has spread to at least three lymph nodes. In Stage IIIB, the cancer is in at least three lymph nodes and nearby tissues or organs. Stage IIIC means the cancer has spread to more than four lymph nodes as well as nearby tissues or organs.
Stage IV
Stage IV colon cancer is very advanced. The cancer has now spread, not only to lymph nodes and surrounding areas of the colon, but also to distant organs such as the liver or lungs.

If you have a loved one that is too sick to get up while you change the bed linens, you can make the bed while she's still in it. It takes a bit of finesse. But with some practice, you can make an occupied bed without even touching the clean bed lines to the soiled ones.
Instructions
1. Gather the clean sheets. Set them on a chair or table nearby. Give the patient his bath before beginning this procedure. Work quickly so the patient doesn't chill.
2. Roll the person over to one side of the bed. It helps if she's somewhat mobile. If not, you may need some assistance.
3. Remove the top blanket. Set it on a clean spot if you're going to put it back on the occupied bed.
4. Untuck the sheets all the way around. Remove the top sheet. Push the lengthwise side of the bottom sheet to the side of the bed where the patient is lying.
5. Place the clean bottom sheet in place lengthwise on the cleared side of the occupied bed. Roll the bed's occupant over the pile of soiled sheets and on to the clean side of the bed.
6. Take the soiled sheets from the bed. Pull the rest of the bottom sheet into place. Place the top sheet in place and tuck it in. Put the blanket back into place as well.
7. Extract the pillow gently from under the head of the bed's occupant. Change pillowcases and replace the pillow on the bed. Make sure the occupant is comfortable and warm.

Drug trafficking involves selling drugs and drug paraphernalia, whether it is a local exchange between a user and a dealer or a major international operation. Drug trafficking is a problem that affects every nation in the world and exists on many levels.
Drug trafficking involves every kind of drug and affects people in every nation.
Definition
Drug trafficking is the commercial exchange of drugs and drug paraphernalia. This includes any equipment used to manufacture illegal drugs or use them.
Interdiction
Interdiction is the effort of governments in various countries to stop the drug-trafficking industry.
Success of Interdiction
According to the Drug Policy Alliance Network, law-enforcement agencies would need to intercept approximately 70 percent of illegal drugs in order to reduce drug trafficking around the world. At the present time, only approximately 10 to 15 percent of heroin is intercepted, and only approximately 30 percent of cocaine is seized.
Penalties
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) enforces laws that carry various penalties for drug crimes. A person found in possession of certain illegal drugs, such as cocaine or heroin, will face no less than five years in prison.
The Balloon Effect
The balloon effect is a theory about enforcing drug policies that states that when law-enforcement agencies crack down on drug trafficking in one area, it increases in another. This is one of the problems with trying to combat drug trafficking around the world.

Several types of medicine cause nausea after you ingest them. These types of medicine may include aspirin, analgesics and antivirals for HIV. Many times you may feel more discomfort from the nausea than the disorder itself. There are several things you can do to help alleviate nausea and feel more comfortable after taking medicine. Read on to learn alleviate nausea from medicine.
Instructions
1. Take your medicine with food or milk if it doesn't specify taking on an empty stomach. Many medications will irritate the stomach lining causing nausea. Food will provide a buffer between the stomach lining and the medicine to alleviate the nausea.
2. Lie still in a dark, well-ventilated room. Keep a basin within reach just in case you feel the need to vomit. Listen to relaxing music to calm your stomach and mind.
3. Rinse your mouth out after vomiting to alleviate further nausea. The lingering taste in your mouth can make nausea worse. Brush your teeth if you are able to do so without vomiting again.
4. Snack on small amounts of food after the nausea is relieved. Eat bland foods such as oyster crackers and chicken noodle soup. Drink plenty of clear liquids.
5. Perform acupressure therapy. Apply pressure at P6 and ST36, which are located on the back of the wrist and near the knee. Make sure to perform acupressure on the exact location to feel results.
6. Drink peppermint tea. The oils in the tea will soothe your stomach. It will also cure a sore throat you may get from vomiting.
Sciatic nerve pain is caused by an injury to or the compression of the sciatic nerve. The pain usually begins in the back and radiates down through the buttocks and into the leg. Treatments vary, so consideration of all options and healers is advised.
Significance
Sciatic nerve pain can be so severe that it leaves a person immobile. Other times, it can be described as a dull ache, a minor tingling or a burning pain.
Considerations
Sciatic nerve pain is a symptom, not a condition. Finding out the cause of the pain is imperative in the course of treatment and recovery.
Effects
A slipped or herniated disc, a fractured vertebra, a stress fracture or a tumor can cause sciatic nerve pain. If the cause is outside the scope of a chiropractor, a physician's care is advised.
Features
Chiropractic care of sciatic nerve pain is always non-surgical and no medications are prescribed. Ice and heat therapy, ultrasound, spinal adjustment, and physical exercise may be used.
Function
A physician treating sciatic nerve pain will determine the cause, the severity and the course of action. Anti-inflammatory medication is often beneficial, and oftentimes cortisol injections are used. Surgery is always the last resort.
Potential
Physicians and chiropractors frequently work together in treating a patient's sciatica. Co-managing the treatment and the progress of the patient yields excellent results.

People who have Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) commonly just called Lupus are usually diagnosed with every illness under the sun before their blood is finally tested and confirmed for Lupus. It's not a big surprised though if you think about it. Lupus is an autoimmune disease which means that it can attack everything in your body. It can be hard for a doctor to diagnose you when your symptoms could be any number of things and any two people with Lupus could have completely different systems. It all depends on what their particular immune system is attacking. Here is a list of some common symptoms.
Instructions
1. The red Lupus butterfly rash; it runs across the face touching the cheeks and nose. In the early stages it may only show on the nose or maybe on the cheek. Regular lotions are powerless to its redness and dryness.
2. Arthritis symptoms. Your joints get stiff and achy. This is why people in the past who had Lupus would go to a Rheumatologist; they thought they actually had arthritis. So many Lupus patients went to Rheumatologists that Rheumatologists became the Lupus specialist even though arthritis is only one of many unrelated symptoms. Lupus also causes muscle loss.
3. Eczema and Psoriasis. Overly dry, itchy and sensitive skin; skin that truly itches all day long. It's so sensitive that the air from a fan, the tightness of socks, or a back rub irritates it. It makes it very hard to stay in the same position very long. Lupus is also linked to skin disorders such as Vitiligo where the pigment disappears from the skin. I wonder if Michael Jackson ever proved that he had Vitiligo.
4. Being tired. If your immune system won't stop attacking, every day is a sick day. The more stress you put on your body the more your immune system will work and the more tired you will be.
5. Horrible circulation. Lupus patient's fingers, toes, nose, ears etc... need to be kept warm. When they get cold their blood vessels constrict which makes it even harder to warm them.
6. Hair loss. Some Lupus patients lose all of their hair, some only lose a little. Most claim to have always had very thin hair.
7. Sores in the mouth and on the outer body as well. These sores and any cut or scratch etc... heal very slowly. The skin also breaks more easily for cuts and scrapes when they happen. The inability to heal as quickly as normal people makes it hard on Lupus patients when they get the common cold or any illness.
8. Inability to concentrate and memorize. It is very hard to remember things as well. I liken it to a computer. The hard drive works just fine but the cash runs a little slow.
9. Sometimes, out of nowhere, any particular body part can spasm or feel like it's being stabbed or hurt in some way(sometimes like growing pains), for no particular reason.
10. Eyes, nose, ears and mouth problems. May feel like a sinus infection that will never go away or like your hearing is going. Nose may run or have sores.
11. Severe irritation to the sun even with sun block on. Being out in the sun or under bright lights for a few hours can be enough to cause exhaustion.
12. There are other problems that Lupus causes inside the body that you won't see happening such as kidney failure, Osteoporosis, blood disorders, heart disease etc... Sadly, there are so many symptoms; it's hard to name them all. The best thing to do if you think you may have Lupus is to make an appointment with your Doctor and talk about how you feel.
Traditional casts made of plaster are very heavy, especially for children, and are on their way to extinction. Doctors prefer to use fiberglass casts, which are stronger and more lightweight. While plaster casts only come in the color white, fiberglass casts come in a variety of colors. Often times, the doctor will allow the patient to choose the color of their fiberglass cast.
Blue
Fiberglass casts come in blue without having to add any other pigment.
Fiberglass casts are blue without even having to add color. The plastic of fiberglass casts come in blue, epoxy (honey-colored) or clear without having any pigment added to them. Blue fiberglass casts are usually available at the hospital or doctors office.
Black and Grey
Black and grey casts are not popular.
While not very common, fiberglass ankle casts do come in black and grey. Since they aren't very popular, black and grey casts may not be available immediately. Some doctors will change the color of the cast halfway through the healing period, so request black or grey in advance.
Yellow
Yellow casts really stand out.
Yellow is the brightest colored cast that a patient can have. The uncolored fiberglass is called epoxy, which is a honey-colored yellow. However, a bright neon yellow is available for those that want to make a statement with the color of their ankle cast. Yellow is a good choice as well if the patient wants people to sign the cast, as black marker is very visible on yellow.
White
Plaster casts and fiberglass casts come in white.
Plaster casts only come in white. Fiberglass casts can come in white as well, but the color must be requested since white is not the "normal" color for fiberglass casts.

Older people and those with arthritis or balance problems may need to use a cane or walker to get around. While both can be used for support and mobility, canes and walkers serve different purposes. A person should select the cane or walker that best meets their needs.
Function of Canes
Canes help a person balance and support themselves when they need to move around. Canes typically support up to 25 percent of a person's body weight, according to information from the website Mayoclinic.com.
Function of Walkers
Walkers normally support about 50 percent of a person's body weight. They give a person a wider degree of stability and balance than canes.
Features
Canes can be made of wood or even aluminum. Some have adjustable features. Walkers are normally operated with two hands and can function with four, two or no wheels, providing more stability.
Types
There are many different types of walking canes, including daily use canes, lightweight walking canes, dress and formal canes and even hand-carved canes. Some canes are even similar to walkers in that they have four legs. Some walkers are straight-legged while others have wheels in the front or on all four legs.
Considerations
Canes and walkers are usually available at medical supply stores or drug stores. It is always best to first try out a cane or walker and then select the one that best suits your needs. Insurance or Medicare usually pick up some of the cost.

Discovering that your child has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder can be a life-altering experience. While you might feel relieved to finally have a name for the behaviors that your child has been exhibiting, you also face a long road ahead filled with guess-and-check treatment techniques that can affect the whole family. However, borderline personality disorder is highly treatable, and the mood swings will gradually fade over time.
Instructions
1. Understand that borderline personality disorder requires a diagnosis by a psychiatrist or psychologist. It is characterized by unstable interpersonal relationships, intense and often dynamic mood swings, dissociative behavior, paranoia, difficulty controlling rage, suicidal tendencies, and destructive behavior that is usually impulsive.
2. Enroll your child in therapy with a qualified mental health professional who has experience treating borderline personality disorder. The therapist should specialize in children and have a long track record of success with patients, but it is equally important that your child feel comfortable with his psychologist or psychiatrist. It may take several tries before you find the right one.
3. Inform teachers and other adults with whom your child has regular contact, including family members. It might be difficult to overcome the social stigmas involving mental illness, but it is crucial for your child's safety as well as the safety of others that you disclose this information. Borderline personality disorder can cause both internally and externally destructive behavior.
4. Encourage your child to express herself regardless of the circumstances. Children with borderline personality disorder often internalize their feelings, resulting in a build-up of anger and frustration that can materialize through suicide attempts and self-mutilation. If your child seems to be distressed, sit down, and insist upon talking about it.
5. Supervise the taking of medication ordered by your child's therapist. Some children will avoid taking their medication because they don't want to feel different from their peers, and may go to great lengths to fool you into thinking they have taken it. It is better for everyone if you watch your child swallow their medicine every day.
6. Watch your child for side effects of antidepressant medication. These drugs often produce negative side effects that include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cold sweats, headaches, and nosebleeds. If your child is having a difficult time with a certain medication, talk to his therapist about changing it.
7. Maintain a journal of daily experiences with your child. Borderline personality disorder is observed more easily by family members than by therapists, and you will be a key component in her recovery. Write about changes in behavior, good days and bad days, then share the journal with her therapist.
8. Consider family therapy. Often, the parents of children with borderline personality disorder need an outlet for their own emotions, and family therapy can be used as a tool alongside your child's individual therapy. This will allow all family members, including siblings, to express their feelings openly and without fear of judgment.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease characterized by destructive changes to various joints throughout the body. There are several classes of medications available to treat rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and effects.
NSAIDs
Doctors may begin treating rheumatoid arthritis with a class of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which includes naproxen sodium and ibuprofen. Depending on symptom severity, treatment may begin with nonprescription or prescription versions of these drugs, according to the Mayo Clinic.
DMARDs
Doctors may also use a class of medications called disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs to slow rheumatoid arthritis and help protect affected joints. The Mayo Clinic cites examples including sulfasalazine (Azulfidine), methotrexate (Rheumatrex) and leflunomide (Arava).
Corticosteroids
Doctors may address acute symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis with corticosteroids, according to the Mayo Clinic. Medication options include methylprednisolone and prednisone.
TNF Inhibitors
Treatment for rheumatoid arthritis may also include a class of medications called tumor necrosis factor inhibitors, which block the actions of a protein involved in inflammatory reactions, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Example medications include infliximab (Remicade), adalimumab (Humira) and etanercept (Enbrel).
Additional Medications
The Mayo Clinic and U.S. National Library of Medicine list additional medication options that include immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine (Neoral) and azathioprine (Imuran) and white blood cell modulators such as rituximab (Rituxan) and abatacept (Orencia).

Acidic Chinese medicine treatments are used to target ailments associated with liver dysfunction and other ailments associated with discharge and excess fluid in the body. Unlike many Western treatments that center around drugs or invasive treatments, traditional acidic Chinese medicine treatments focus on the properties of acidic foods to return balance to the body.
Acidic Chinese Medicine in Brief
Acidic Chinese medicine largely focuses on foods with acidic or sour flavors. In traditional Chinese medicine, the flavor of a food reveals its medicinal properties, and foods are categorized by four flavors: spicy, sour, sweet and salty. While Westerners prescribe foods based on their nutritional content, traditional Chinese medicine practitioners see flavors as the key to determining a food's beneficial properties. Depending on the specific needs of the individual, certain flavors should be emphasized and others should be minimized.
Liver Conditions
Acidic flavors enter the liver. Therefore, acidic Chinese medicinal treatments can be applied to conditions that involve the liver such as liver fire, liver qi stagnation and liver yang rising.
Liver fire
The symptoms of liver fire are associated with the Western medicine diagnoses of irritable bowel syndrome, attention deficit disorder, fibromyalgia, acid reflux disease, migraines, herpes, mania and bipolar disorder.
Liver qi stagnation
Liver qi stagnation is associated with PMS, infertility, irritable bowel syndrome, gastroenteritis, hepatitis, pelvic inflammatory disease and colitis among others.
Liver yang rising
This condition is associated with migraines, blurred vision and depression.
Discharge and Excess
Acidic flavors have the ability to absorb excess fluids in the body. Therefore, acidic foods are used to treat ailments associated with discharge and excess such as:
Chronic diarrhea
Dysentery
Hemorrhoids
Excessive bleeding (including wounds, hemorrhoids, blood in stool and other bleeding disorders)
Frequent urination and incontinence
Excessive sweating
Involuntary nocturnal emissions
Chronic cough
Acidic Foods
These foods are dominated by an acidic or sour flavor, which signifies that they target the liver and prevent discharge and excess fluid within the body.
Black plums
Raspberries
Lemons
Apples
Apricots
Kumquats
Lychee
Mandarin oranges
Mangoes
Olives
Peaches
Pineapples
Plums
Raspberries
Adzuki beans
Star fruit
Strawberries
Tangerines
Tomatoes
Vinegar
Pears
Plums
Balance
Keep in mind that while acidic Chinese medicine treatments prescribe a diet that is partial to sour flavors, balance is still the key to a proper diet and long-term health. Each flavor has negative and positive properties, and only when present together do they provide harmony to the internal organs. For example, while acidic flavors strengthen liver qi, they weaken spleen qi. Therefore, all five flavors should be consumed daily.

Qi gong, also spelled qigong and chi gung, is part of the Chinese martial arts system which includes tai chi. Qi gong incorporates breathing in deeply, allowing the air to circulate throughout the body, then exhaling long and slowly while performing simple, nonstrenuous exercises. As with tai chi, qi gong is practiced in a relaxed, even meditative, state.
Basic Stance
While there are hundreds of qi gong exercises, they typically begin with the feet shoulder-width apart and the toes pointing forward. Stand with your spine gently stretched, the chin slightly tucked and your hips squarely beneath your shoulders. For most, this will mean tucking your tailbone so that the bone points straight down. Shoulders should be relaxed. The arms hang loosely, with a soft curve in the elbows and fingers. The knees are also softly bent.
Awakening the Qi
To awaken the qi (also spelled chi) bring your hands together so the fingertips almost touch, the palms cupped upward. While breathing in slowly, raise the hands to chest height. Then turn the palms over so they face the floor and exhale slowly while lowering the hands, returning them to their original position alongside the thighs. Repeat this 8 times.
Circulating Qi
Let the arms swing loosely as you twist from side to side while bending and straightening the knees. Begin by bending the knees slightly deeper and rotate from the hips (not the waist). Rotate as if you were bending at just one hip to sit down. Start with either side. That one hip will fold into the leg while the other hip and thigh remain open. During the rotation, the knees straighten but retain a soft bend. As the rotation to the left ends, the right arm swings high so that the hand gently taps the left shoulder. Meanwhile, the left hand swings behind the back and lightly taps the right hip. Now bend the knees and begin the rotation back to the opposite side, swinging the arms in a reverse pattern.
Most electric scooters have a battery that resembles a car's battery, and replacing the battery in an electric scooter is just as easy or even easier than replacing the battery in a car. Each brand and model of scooter can have a slightly different battery, so you need to know the brand, make and model of your particular scooter when ordering a replacement battery. Order batteries from the original manufacturer of your scooter, or make certain that the battery you buy is the same size and has the same amperage as the battery you are replacing.
Instructions
1. Note the color of the wires that connect to the battery in your scooter. There will be a red wire that connects to the positive (+) terminal of your battery and a black wire that connects to the negative (-) terminal of your battery.
2. Use your expandable wrench or your screwdriver (depending on the type of battery connection that your particular scooter has) to loosen the connector that holds the red wire to your battery and then loosen the connector that holds the black wire to your battery. Remove the red (+) wire first, and make sure that it does not touch any part of the scooter as you remove the black (-) wire. Never let the two wires touch each other.
3. Check to see if there is a strap or metal bar that must be removed to remove the battery itself. If so, use your expansion wrench to loosen the nut that holds the strap or the metal bar. In some models, especially those with a strap holding the battery in place, a screwdriver or a socket wrench may be needed to remove the strap.
4. Note how the battery is aligned in the scooter. Make a special note of the position of the red (+) terminal of the battery. Now remove the old battery and set it aside. Place the new battery in the cart, making sure that it is aligned in the same manner as the old battery.
5. Hook the strap or the metal retaining bar back in place and tighten the nut or the screw so the new battery is secure. Now attach the red wire to the red (+) terminal of the battery. Screw it snugly or tighten the nut until the positive connection is secure. Attach the black wire to the negative (-) terminal of the battery. Again, snug the connection down firmly. Get into the scooter and test it to make sure everything is working correctly.

Alternatives exist to prescription or over the counter medications that treat headaches, cramps and body pain. One such alternative is magnet therapy, which helps increase blood circulation, alleviates pain and promotes bodily healing. Magnet therapy is becoming more popular, as people debate the possible side effects from prolonged prescription and over the counter drug use.
Instructions
1. Choose a healing magnet that is strong enough to penetrate your skin and provide healing. Therapeutic magnets range from 800 to over 10,000 gauss. Make sure the product lists the magnet strength. The higher the strength of a therapeutic magnet the more expensive and more successful it is in relieving pain. Look for magnets that have a minimum of 800 gauss to penetrate tissues and increase blood flow.
2. Purchase shoe insoles embedded with therapeutic magnets. These types of insoles stimulate the nerve endings under your feet, which stimulates your internal organs and further promotes healing.
3. Select magnets that you can stick to your skin for pain restricted to small areas, such as muscle sprains and headaches. Most of these types of magnets are disposable and come in thin sheets.
4. Buy therapeutic magnet pads and pillows. These produce powerful healthy negative magnetic fields that can help ease pain and enhance your blood circulation while you sleep.
5. Purchase a therapeutic magnet necklace or bracelet. These accessories can be worn every day to help prevent pain in the arms, neck and shoulder areas. They are also beneficial in preventing motion sickness.

Meditation is a practice that has been in use for thousands of years. Meditation attempts to allow a person to achieve a high state of consciousness, a relaxed mind and body, or just lower levels of stress. It can often be difficult for a person to reach this state, especially if they are new to meditating. The candle meditation, in which the visual of a candle's flame, both real and imagined, is used to help aid in the attempt to gain the benefits of meditation is a great technique for novices and experience individuals alike.
Instructions
Do Candle Meditation
1. Seclude yourself in a quiet, darkened room.
2. Light the wick of a candle, and place the burning candle in front of you.
3. Assume the meditating position with which you are most comfortable. See tips below for suggested meditation position.
4. Watch the flame as it burns and dances in front of you. Focus all of your thoughts and energy onto observing the flame, while allowing your body to relax. If thoughts come into your mind, allow them to pass through your mind, without forcing them, and return to the flame.
5. Shut your eyes and visualize the candle's flame. Imagine it moving and pulsating as you continue to remove thought from your mind, and stress from your body.

Morning sickness affects between 50 and 90 percent of all pregnant women in one way or another. Some women experience morning sickness throughout their entire pregnancies, while others feel a little "green" only during the first trimester. Morning sickness can include nausea, vomiting and aversions to certain foods or odors. Practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) often use acupuncture to even out hormone imbalances. For this reason, women may choose to treat their severe or long-lasting morning sickness with acupuncture.
Instructions
1. Use a calendar to keep track of your morning sickness symptoms and bring it with you to your first acupuncture appointment. Note the week of pregnancy you are in and how you are feeling each day. Write down any specific foods or smells that seem to trigger episodes of nausea or vomiting.
2. Find a certified acupuncturist who can work with you to treat your morning sickness. Ask your doctor if he can refer you to an acupuncturist who specializes in women's health. If you do not have a referral, use the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture's online directory (see Resources below).
3. Schedule twice-weekly acupuncture appointments for 2 weeks as a "trial run" to see if acupuncture will be able to treat your morning sickness. People who have not used acupuncture before need at least four sessions to adjust to the treatments. If you find the treatment works for you, you can then work out a regular schedule of sessions with your acupuncturist.
4. Eat a small snack 2 hours before you are scheduled for acupuncture to prevent lightheadedness or dizziness during the appointment. Bland foods such as crackers, dry toast or ginger ale are foods that are generally tolerated by pregnant women who experience morning sickness.
5. Wear a shirt with sleeves that can be easily pushed up during treatment. Take off your watch and bracelets prior to your appointment. The main acupoint that is used for morning sickness is on your forearms, above the wrists.
6. Follow the acupuncturist's suggestions to keep morning sickness at bay between appointments. She may suggest that you buy motion sickness wristbands to wear after your acupuncture sessions. These are bands that put pressure on the points above the wrists that are manipulated during acupuncture and they are available at many drug stores.

If you want to decide to harvest black cohosh, you must learn identify the plant. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine reports mixed results when studying the therapeutic affects of black cohosh but some alternative and native healers see it as a helpful herb in treating a variety of symptoms and conditions. Herbalists use the fresh or dried underground stems and roots of black cohosh to make infusions, tinctures, capsules and extracts. You can harvest these roots after identifying the plant. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Look for the black cohosh plant in shaded areas in U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness Zone 3. You will find black cohosh plants in moist, rich ground. It grows in big patches in areas from southern Canada to the Appalachian Mountains, in Eastern states and throughout the Midwest. You can find black cohosh as far south as Georgia and Missouri.
2. Search for black cohosh in open woods and on hillsides. Observe plants that reach about 8 feet in height. If you want to find black cohosh in the summertime, check for a tall plant that has a long plumb of white flowers. Each stalk can contain dozens of individual flowers, and the flowers will bloom between June and September. These flower buds resemble tiny round buttons that open into a flower. Each flower bud has several strands in its center, called stamens.
3. Check the leaves on the plant. Black cohosh plants have large leaves. The three compound divisions of the leaves arrange on each side of the plant's stalk, called the pinnate. You will see irregular tiny, toothed leaflets along the edges of the leaves.
4. Look at the plant's rootstock. The roots of the black cohosh appear knotted and scarred with old growth. The horizontal stem of the plant, the rhizome, appears black and rough. If you want to replant the black cohosh, you must cut and divide the rhizome and each portion must have a nascent bud and rootlets.
5. Smell the plant. Black cohosh smells fetid, but this smell attracts bees that pollinate the flowers. Observe to see if the plant attracts bees and insects, as a black cohosh plant in bloom will attract lots of bees and other insects.

Beeswax is used in several products, from salves, to lotions, to candles. Beeswax is believed to soften and smooth the skin, and also to lock moisture into the skin by creating a long-lasting protective barrier against the elements. Beeswax is also an ingredient found in lotions and creams used to lessen the itching and pain associated with eczema and psoriasis due to the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Homemade beeswax ointment can be produced for a fraction of the price of store-bought products.
Instructions
Beeswax and Rose Ointment
1. Pour 3/4 cup almond oil, 1/3 cup coconut oil, and 1 tsp. lanolin into a medium-sized saucepan.
2. Grate 1/2 ounce beeswax with a cheese grater.
3. Place 1/2 ounce grated beeswax into the saucepan.
4. Melt the ingredients over low heat until the beeswax is completely melted. Stir the ingredients and allow them to cool completely.
5. Pour the melted ingredients into a large bowl, and add 2/3 cup rosewater, 1/3 cup aloe vera, and 2 drops rose oil to the mixture. Stir.
6. Break open one vitamin E capsule, which can be purchased at a drugstore, over the ingredients in the bowl. Stir the vitamin E liquid into the mixture.

There are two main kinds of gum disease: gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis occurs when the gums around the teeth are inflamed and sometimes bleed. Periodontitis is caused by bacteria that grows from the surface of the teeth. Periodontitis is the most severe case of gum disease and can lead to tooth loss. Once your dentist has discovered that you have gum disease, you need to carefully clean you gums as to not cause much bleeding or infection when flossing.
Instructions
1. Floss after every meal to not only get rid of any food, but to scrap off any plaque. Not flossing regularly is the main cause of gum disease, so after you've found out you have gum disease, start getting in the habit of flossing all the time. Use ACT fluoride rinse, which is an antibacterial mouth wash.
2. Brush your gums smoothly and try to not make them bleed. Use toothpaste for sensitive teeth and a yeast agent to help kill tartar. Brush all areas of your gums and also try to brush the areas between your gums and teeth.
3. Eat more healthful food and don't eat food with rough edges such as potato chips. Try eating foods that are full of vitamin C and calcium. Low-fat yogurt is good to eat as it won't hurt you gums and will make your teeth bones stronger. Make sure that you still brush and clean your teeth and gums well after eating.
4. Undergo scaling and root planning procedures by oral health professionals. This is a deep cleaning method of scraping plaque and tartar from all sides around the gums.
5. Have the pocket reduction procedure performed by a dentist, where pockets that have formed on the gums are removed and cleaned. Medicine is then applied to the gums and must repeatedly used after thoroughly cleaning your gums.

Fragrances may come in the form of perfumes and essential oils, which can help a person deal with stress. The area of the brain that senses smells is closely related to the area of the brain that controls our emotions, according to the Wavelengths Natural Health website. Using fragrances to help depression often is called aromatherapy.
Aromatherapy
Fragrances can lift your mood and revitalize the mind. Studies indicate that smelling lavender, for example, increases alpha brain wave frequency in the back of the brain and is associated with calmness, according to Depression-guide.com. If a person inhales the scent of jasmine, it increases the alpha waves toward the front of the brain that help a person feel more alert. There are candles, lotions, makeup, perfume and air fresheners available in these scents.
Odor Associations
Odors that are associated with negative emotions or unhappy times from the past can continue to evoke bad feelings, according to the book "Aromatherapy: a complete guide to the healing art." The book explains that fragrance can help relieve pain and affect personality and behavior. If the smell of pumpkin pie reminds you of a happy time at your grandmother's house, find a candle scented with pumpkin pie spice to lift your mood.
Fragrances to Lift Mood
The scents that are considered helpful in depression are rose, sandalwood, lavender, jasmine, peppermint, citrus, cedar wood, chamomile, geranium and ylang ylang. Look for these fragrances when buying lotion, candles, perfumes, house or car air fresheners.
Bubble Baths
Using fragrances in your bathwater also can lift your mood. Taking a warm bath at the end of day with a few drops of sage essential oil can help treat insomnia, anxiety and depression. Taking a bath in the morning with some drops of rose or lavender essential oil can lift your spirit and clear your mind. Companies that make bubble baths often use these fragrances in their products.
Drink Tea
Drinking a cup of tea each morning with an aroma to calm your mind or lift your spirit is a comforting ritual to get you ready for your day. Drink a cup of chamomile tea before bedtime to help you sleep. Citrus or peppermint tea can energize and brighten your mood anytime of day.
Massage
Get a massage and ask the massage therapist to use oils infused with acalming and uplifting fragrance--both the fragrance and the massage may dispel anxiety and depression. Ask the massage therapist for a bit of the oil that was used during the massage, when you get home place a few drops on the light bulbs of your home to diffuse the smell through out your house. When you smell the fragrance associated with your massage, you will be reminded of the same emotions of calm and well-being you had after the massage.
Warning
Aromatherapy should be used in conjunction with your doctor's advice. Seek the help of your doctor if your depression is severe and persistent.

Benefits of a Scalp Massage are to stimulate blood flow in your head to help feed the hair follicles. In some cases, they will prevent avoidable hair loss and improve your scalp health. Massage therapy can get the blood circulating between the skin, skull and brain to eliminate stress and tension while increasing focus and concentration.
Instructions
1. Place your hands on both sides of your temples right at the hair roots.
2. Spread out your fingers and thumbs to cover as much of the scalp as possible.
3. Using your fingertips and not your fingernails, start at the temples and use firm, gentle pressure. Make small clockwise circles from your temples to the top of your head.
4. Take long deep breaths while massaging your scalp.
5. Move downward continuing with the small circles to the nape of your neck.
6. Repeat the massage therapy from the beginning, but change the direction of your gentle circles to counter-clockwise.

Most patients end up in a cervical collar because of neck injuries or surgery. Sleeping can be a challenge. Although the cervical collar keeps your neck positioned in the appropriate alignment, this isn't the position most people sleep in and you may have some trouble getting comfortable. The key to sleeping comfortably is adjusting the rest of your body so that it matches the alignment of your neck.
Instructions
1. Check with your doctor to see she has special instructions about sleeping in your cervical collar.
2. Use a soft cervical pillow instead of a full cervical collar only if you have your doctor's permission to do so. The soft pillows tend to make sleep more comfortable, but they also allow movement of the neck--whereas a full collar immobilizes you completely. So you'll only be allowed to use a soft pillow if you're being weaned off the full collar and your neck can tolerate some movement.
3. Try to sleep in a reclining chair that's positioned most or all of the way back.
4. Put a thin pillow under your shoulders if you're sleeping in bed. This will probably be more comfortable than trying to sleep with a pile of pillows propping you up, as the pillow lets your neck extend into a comfortable position.
5. Roll up towels and position them around your neck, to either side of your head, or underneath your shoulders as necessary to help get yourself into a comfortable position and stay there. This works whether you're sleeping in the bed or a chair.
6. Place a pillow between your knees if you're sleeping on your side. This will help keep your entire spine aligned with your neck and reduce stress on your body. If you're sleeping on your back, try putting a pillow underneath your knees.

There is much controversy over whether a person's diet causes acne. Some believe that there's no correlation between the two, while others believe that what you eat directly affects the appearance of your skin. Regardless of the cause, there are helpful diet tips to follow that may help improve problem skin.
Foods to Eat
Vegetables, fresh and cooked, are crucial for those who suffer from acne. They are full of necessary vitamins needed to improve acne-prone skin, such as vitamin A and vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that prevents cell oxidation. Vitamin A is a powerful vitamin that regulates sebum production in the skin---overproduction of sebum in the skin is what causes acne.
Vegetables also contain fiber, which helps the body expel built-up toxins, thus allowing the skin to heal itself quicker.
Foods to Avoid
Refined foods, such as junk foods and white foods, should be eliminated completely. These processed foods build up within the system and can cause skin to become oilier. They also do not contain necessary fiber, so toxins stay stored within the body. This slows the skin's healing process, not just in relation to acne, but other ailments as well.
Topical Foods for Acne
Tomatoes are full of vitamins C and A. Cut a slice of tomato and rub it all over the skin. Allow the tomato mask to dry for 10 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.
Also try a mashed banana mask. Bananas contain potassium which is a natural antibacterial agent. This will help naturally kill bacteria in acne blemishes. Apply a mashed banana to the face, allow the banana mask to dry for 15 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.
Alcohol and driving have always been a potentially lethal combination. Drivers who have been drinking pose a greater threat to themselves and others than any other type of driver on the road because of impaired judgment, depth perception and reaction times. Alcohol-related car accidents happen because people overestimate their alcohol tolerance levels or driving ability. Knowing the facts about alcohol and driving can save multiple lives.
Why Alcohol Is Harmful To Drivers
Alcohol is a depressant; it slows down the functioning of the brain by interfering with neurotransmitters. Drinking alcohol affects specifically the cerebral cortex, the part of the brain responsible for processing sensory input and initiating voluntary muscle movement. Alcohol impairs the cerebellum, which, according to www.Blood Alcohol.info, coordinates voluntary muscle movement. If these functions are impaired, driving safely is difficult or even impossible.
Why People Drink and Drive
Scientists have studied the effects of alcohol on the brain since the 1920s, and over the decades they have documented results thoroughly. However, people still drink and drive. The human liver metabolizes 1/2 ounce of alcohol per hour, according to the McKinley Health Center at the University of Illinois. This is because alcohol bypasses the digestive process; the majority of alcohol goes through the stomach into the small intestine, where the bloodstream absorbs it and sends it to the heart, lungs and brain.
Alcohol-Related Fatality Statistics
According to SADD, or Students Against Drunk Driving, 24 percent of males ages 15 to 20 who had a fatal car accident in 2005 had been drinking. Another danger of driving while impaired is the lack of a seat belt. Sixty-four percent of drivers in fatal alcohol-related accidents were not wearing a safety belt. Alcohol doesn't just impair teenagers' driving abilities; 39 percent of all auto accidents were caused by alcohol. At night, when drinking occurs most heavily, the percentage of crashes is three times greater. There are ways to decrease the risk of having an alcohol-related accident.
Time Frame
Alcohol takes time to make its way through the body and work its effects. Pace your drinks slowly if you must drink. If you plan to drive, wait at least four hours before driving after your last drink. Because the liver processes 1/2 ounce of alcohol per hour, and the average drink is 8 ounces, it takes four hours on average for the alcohol to completely leave the body. If you can't wait, call a taxi or have a sober friend drive you home. The safest alternative, however, is to abstain from alcohol.
Misconceptions
A common misconception drivers have about getting on the road when drinking is that if they don't feel drunk, the alcohol has had no effect. Even the smallest drop of alcohol in the bloodstream can slow reaction time just enough to contribute to an accident, even if the difference isn't consciously noticeable. Also, common remedies suggested to quickly sober up such as milk, coffee or food don't work. Food does help to slow metabolization of alcohol, but the only way to truly get alcohol out of the body is to wait for the liver to naturally process it.

A trigger point is a tight and painful area that can occur within the muscle or the thin sheath, called the fascia, covering the muscles, bones, and internal organs and structures. This results in small muscle knots. Since fascia covers the internal structures, this bunching can cause pain to radiate into another location. Releasing a trigger point with manual therapy, such as direct pressure, can release knots and help ease localized and radiating pain and tenderness.
Instructions
Release Trigger Points with Direct Pressure
1. Warm up the area of pain with gliding or kneading massage strokes.
2. Locate muscle knots with your fingertips.
3. Apply direct pressure to the trigger points or knots. Pressure may cause mild to moderate discomfort. If severe or excruciating pain is experienced by the person, ease pressure. Maintain direct pressure until a release is felt. A release is when the knotted area melts or becomes a bit softer.
4. Repeat the direct pressure technique until the trigger point disappears. Disappearance of a trigger point can be determined when the knotted area is no longer palpable.
5. Soothe the trigger point area with gentle kneading or gliding strokes.
Advanced Technique to Release Trigger Points
6. Warm up the area of tightness with gliding or kneading massage strokes.
7. Locate muscle knots with your fingertips.
8. Place the heel of one hand above the area of tightness or restriction for counterpressure.
9. Apply the deep stroking technique with fingertips or knuckles in the direction of the restriction. Deep stroking may produce mild to moderate discomfort. If the technique produces severe pain, ease pressure.
10. Soothe the trigger point area with gentle kneading or gliding strokes.

Ipratropium, which is sold under the brand name Atrovent, is a drug used to prevent the narrowing of the airways in the lungs. Using this product may lead to a number of mild to severe side effects based on the dose size and particular individual.
What is Ipratropium?
Ipratropium is a prescription drug often sold in the form of an inhalant that is used to treat individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Classified as an anticholinergic, Ipratropium prevents the wheezing and difficulty breathing associated with emphysema and bronchitis and relaxes the muscles of the airways. By preventing the constriction that occurs in the bronchial airways, Ipratropium effectively improves the patient's ease of breathing.
Common Side Effects
Using Ipratropium can cause a number of common side effects including headache, nausea, sore throat, dry mouth and nose, dizziness, cough, sinus infection, flu-like symptoms. Although these side effects are the most common, do not hesitate to contact your doctor if one or several persist or become more bothersome.
Serious Side Effects
According to Drugs.com, there are a number of serious of side effects that may occur as a result of using Ipratropium including blurred vision, irregular urination, nosebleeds and eye pain. In addition, severe allergic reaction to the medication signaled by swelling of the face and throat can also occur. Seek immediate medical attention if any of the side effects from the above list arise.
Use and Storage
Be sure to always follow a doctor's prescription specific to your case. Never alter the dose or duration of use. In order to inhale the medication properly, the device should be primed by spraying twice away from the face. Drugs.com reports that the user should first breathe out fully and then place the device to the mouth and inhale for 10 seconds. Closing the eyes while inhaling will prevent the medication from accidentally getting into the eyes. The inhalation device should be stored with the cap on and cleaned once per week.
Warning
The use of alcohol can worsen the side effects of dizziness and drowsiness. Use extra caution before you discover how the medication affects you when attempting to drive or operate machinery. Avoid contact with the eyes. Flush eyes immediately with water if contact with Ipratropium occurs. Discuss your use of Ipratropium with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Care for your leather to keep it stylish and comfortable.
Glue may be all you need to repair a small tear or surface cut in leather, if you use specially formulated leather glue. This kind of glue will remain flexible and will not crack when dry. You can also use a brand of contact cement that is suitable for leather, information that is listed on the bottle. You can use glue to mend surface cuts in leather goods ranging from furniture and car seats to clothing and bags. If the cut is deeper or has ragged edges, you may need to fill or patch the hole as well.
Instructions
Simple Surface Cuts
1. Wipe the area around the cut with rubbing alcohol. Use a soft cloth to apply the rubbing alcohol. This will remove grease and dirt, and will ensure that the glue and any colorant you use will adhere properly to the leather.
2. Pinch the leather on either side of the cut between your finger and thumb to raise and expose the cut fibers. Snip off any frayed fibers with the scissors.
3. Put a little glue on the end of the scalpel or toothpick. Apply the glue along the cut surfaces. Warm the glued area with a hair dryer if necessary to make the glue tacky.
4. Push the cut edges together gently, and hold them in place while the glue sets. Use tape if you find it difficult to keep holding the edges in place. Press the join flat using the blunt end of the scalpel or toothpick. Wipe off any excess glue while it is still wet. Let the glue dry completely, in accordance with the instructions on the bottle.
5. Apply leather dye along the join if it is conspicuous. Spread thin coats of dye across an area larger than the original cut to blend the dye into the original color of the leather. Dry the dye between coats with a hair dryer. Rub with a cloth or fine-grit sandpaper after drying to restore the leather finish or texture.
Rips, Holes, Burns and Deep Cuts
6. Sand the area around the hole or tear if grease and dirt have built up. Clean off the residue using rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth.
7. Trim frayed or worn edges using the scissors or scalpel.
8. Insert a canvas sub-patch behind the hole using tweezers, and smooth it flat. This will form a backing for the leather.
9. Apply glue to the underside of the leather, between the leather and the canvas patch. Use a palette knife, scalpel or toothpick to apply the glue depending how large the hole is. Make sure you coat every edge of the leather with glue. Warm the glued area using a hair dryer or other heat applicator, if the manufacturer's instructions say the glue needs heat to activate it.
10. Press the leather onto the canvas. Keep pressing until the glue has bonded - the instructions on the bottle will tell you how long this takes. Leave the glue to dry completely.
11. Spread heavy filler into the hole if you need to level the surface. Build it up in thin layers, drying between each layer. Apply colorant to the filler and surrounding area in thin coats. Let each coat dry between coats. Once dry, sand the filler smooth.
12. Patch over the hole with a matching piece of leather. This is an option if the tear is very deep or wide. Put glue around the hole and press the patch into place. Let it dry completely, then sand the edges lightly to smooth them down and remove traces of glue. Coat with dye as necessary. Once dry, sand and condition the leather to restore finish.
Muscle and tissue tenderness and pain often comes from trigger points which are specific areas along a muscle that have high sensitivity. This is caused by excessive neural stimulation to the muscle fibers, which causes them to adhere together, explains physical therapist Gray Cook, author of "Athletic Body in Balance." There are different ways to perform self-massage to alleviate muscle tenderness, although there may be parts of your body that you may not be able to massage by yourself.
Foam Rolling
Self-myofascial release, or SMR, is a type of self-massage technique that applies pressure to the triggers to break the tissue adhesions. Many physical therapists and fitness professionals use the foam roller as a tool for SMR. It is a cylindrical roll that is made out of densely-packed styrofoam between one to three feet long. For most exercises, you lay a body part on top of the roll, such as you thighs, calves or back, and gentle roll along the length of the muscle fibers. When you find a tender spot, massage the area gently until the pain and tenderness goes away, the National Academy of Sports Medicine recommends.
The Stick
Another tool that helps you perform SMR is the massage stick, which is a semi-flexible plastic baton that has a segmented series of rollers that roll individually when you gently rub it over a body part. You can target specific areas more precisely than a foam roller, and the stick is portable. To use it, hold the stick at each end with each hand and rub over the length of the body part, such as your outer thighs and calves. You can adjust the amount of pressure with your hands, and follow the same procedure as you would with the foam roller.
Vibration
A massage vibrator loosens up tight tissues by applying various degrees of vibration upon the trigger point. It desensitizes the muscle, which loosens some or all of the adhesion. Ohio State University recommends that you apply the vibration directly to the painful spot between 25 to 45 minutes twice a day.
Expert Insight
Physical therapist Chris Frederick, author of "Stretch to Win," recommends that you stretch the area after the self-massage by holding the stretch for at least 30 seconds. This further reduces neural stimulation to the tight tissues and prevents the area from getting worse. Perform each stretch two to three times.

Many women develop uterine fibroid tumors at some point in their life. Uterine fibroid tumors are usually non-cancerous growths of fibrous tissue that are located within the uterus wall. These fibroid tumors may or may not cause any symptoms at all. Women who do experience severe symptoms (or those with multiple or large fibroids) normally need to have the fibroids removed in order to reduce the symptoms and to prevent further complications. There are a few things that you must do in order to remove uterine fibroid tumors.
Instructions
1. Visit your gynecologist or healthcare provider for a physical examination. In order to remove fibroid tumors, your doctor or healthcare provider must first determine the exact number and type of fibroids in your uterine wall and their specific location. Therefore, you must have a physical examination (including an ultrasound of the uterus) before proceeding with treatment options.
2. Complete the required examinations and discuss the test results with your doctor. Your doctor will inform you of the status of your fibroid tumors and give you specific details about them.
3. Discuss treatment options for the uterine fibroid tumors. Depending on the size and location of the fibroids, your doctor may suggest that you have the fibroid tumors surgically removed, or that you have an alternative procedure done (which shrinks the fibroid tumors instead). Your doctor can inform you of the advantages, disadvantages and risks of each treatment method.
4. Inquire into the surgical methods. There are two surgical methods, which include the myomectomy and hysterectomy surgical procedures. The myomectomy procedure involves the surgeon making a small incision inside the uterus and removing one fibroid tumor at a time (the uterus is not removed). The hysterectomy procedure involves removing the entire uterus (along with the fibroids) from the body.
5. Receive information on the alternative treatment methods. Instead of having surgery, some women choose another approach that shrinks the fibroids instead of removing them. Uterine artery embolization involves the surgeon placing a catheter, along with particles, in the uterine artery, which destroys the blood supply to the fibroid tumors. Myolysis is done through a laparoscope; a laser fiber is placed into the fibroid and destroys the blood vessels.
6. Select the appropriate treatment option and schedule an appointment for the procedure. Your doctor will help you choose the best treatment method for dealing with your fibroid tumors. He will inform you of what you need to do next and prepare for the surgery.

Liposuction is a procedure primarily used for fat reduction in areas such as the thighs, abdomen and buttocks. The amount of fat that can be removed depends a great deal on the patient's medical history and the amount of fat. However, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons does not recommend more than 10 pounds of fat at a time being removed, depending on the type of liposuction being performed.
Fluid Injection
This type is used primarily for abdominal liposuction. The doctor injects a small amount of saline solution into the surgery site; this makes it easier for fat removal and acts as an anesthetic as well.
Tumescent Liposuction
While a solution is used similar to that as in the solution used for fluid liposuction, the amount is greater, making the fat removal process quicker and easier. It also reduces the risk of damaging adjoining tissue.
Ultrasound Liposuction
This is a form of tumescent liposuction, however a vacuum tube is used that transmits ultrasound waves. These waves assist in the process and help loosen and remove the fat.
Time Frame
The general recovery period after a liposuction procedure is four weeks. This will depend on the type of procedure you have.
Considerations
Most patients need to wear some type of compression garment while they are recovering which aids in their healing and helps them obtain the best results. Pain medications may also be necessary for a period of up to two weeks.
