Homemade Waterless Hand Sanitizer

Think you know where his hands have been?

Hand washing is a key combatant in the ongoing battle we wage against illness. Washing your hands can be taken a step further by using waterless hand sanitizers. You can quickly and easily make your own at home. You won't believe how soft and silky your hands will feel after you use this simple cleanser.

Advantages of Waterless Hand Sanitizers

Most people are familiar with the fact that hand washing is important. But often it's something they do only out of habit, not because they understand the health benefits. It's been well-proven that most infectious illnesses and food-borne diseases are spread by hand-to-hand contact.

Even though almost everyone knows that hand washing is beneficial to our health, lots of people don't do it very often. Believe it or not, there are many who don't even wash their hands before they eat, or after they've used the restroom. This is particularly true of most children.

If they're in too much of a hurry to properly wash their hands, or if they're just downright lazy, these folks are potential transmitters of disease to all of us. Maybe they should carry a little bottle of alcohol-based waterless hand sanitizer with them. Maybe everybody should.

Not only is waterless hand sanitizer portable, it actually kills viruses and bacteria far more effectively than simple soap and water hand washing, as long as it contains at least 60 percent alcohol. Another plus for waterless sanitizers is that they don't produce as much dryness and skin irritation as soap and water hand washing does.

Make Your Own

The only necessary ingredients for making your homemade waterless hand sanitizer are available in any pharmacy. Rubbing alcohol and aloe vera gel or liquid are always well-stocked on store shelves. You may have to ask the druggist for the glycerin, which is sometimes kept behind the counter.

Pour 4 oz. of rubbing alcohol into a clean empty plastic bottle. Add 1 tsp. of glycerin and shake it up a little to blend. Add 3 oz. of aloe vera gel or liquid, and shake vigorously. The glycerin is a wonderful emollient, and the aloe vera has excellent moisturizing properties. So don't worry that your sanitizer may seem to have a great deal of alcohol in it.

If you'd like to make your waterless sanitizer even more effective for moisturizing, break open a vitamin E gel capsule and add the liquid to it. You can also add 12 to 16 drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil for fragrance and added antiviral properties.

Keep in mind that although it's a little thin compared with commercial preparations, a very tiny bit of this waterless hand sanitizer goes a long, long way. For the average-sized woman, a little puddle slightly smaller than a dime is more than sufficient for a total hand cleansing.

Purchase some empty plastic bottles with tight-fitting lids that are so perfect for airline travel. These are great for storing your waterless hand sanitizer so that you can take it with you wherever you go.

Fast Remedy For An Asthma Attack

Asthma is a chronic condition characterized by tightness of the chest, coughing, wheezing and difficulty breathing. Caused by a puzzling combination of hereditary and environmental factors, the asthmatic's bronchial tubes are hypersensitive to triggers and become inflammed and narrow, making it difficult for air to travel into the lungs. Because an attack can come on suddenly, the asthmatic must know a few simple facts about survive a life-threatening, sudden onset of asthma symptoms.

Environmental Triggers

The asthmatic must be aware of his environment at all times and accept that what is okay for non-asthma sufferers may not be okay for him. We've all been there: Aunt Gertrude invites you over for a Sunday meal (but neglects to tell you she has fourteen cats) and halfway through you realize you're having an asthma attack. The important thing is not to feel guilty; just excuse yourself and go outside for some fresh air. When your asthma starts acting up, you're probably being exposed to an external factor (smoke, pet hair, humidity, heat, paint, fragrances or cleansers) that you should get away from immediately--the sooner the better.

Rescue Inhaler

All asthmatics should keep a rescue inhaler with them at all times. That's often a bronchodilator such as albuterol, which is fast acting and works to open the airways within minutes so you can breathe. It comes in a handy plastic dispenser, is inexpensive and, depending on the severity of your asthma, can last a month or two. Rescue inhalers are a staple for preventing an oncoming attack and are readily available by prescription from your doctor.

Breathe Easier

Many times a rescue inhaler and eliminating environmental factors can cause the attack to dissipate, but sometimes further help is needed. If you're having trouble talking in complete sentences and your inhaler doesn't seem to be making you feel better, then it's time to take a trip to see your pulmonary specialist or the emergency room, where you will receive a breathing treatment, IV medication or some oxygen. On your way, practice breathing techniques: sit up straight, breathe slowly in through the nose (which offers a filter for dust and other environmental triggers) and out through the mouth. Above all, remain calm and know that you are on your way to receiving the best possible care for your asthma.

Recognize Symptoms Of A Brain Tumor

Recognize Symptoms of a Brain Tumor

A tumor is an abnormal growth of mass that don't possess any relevant physiological functions and comes from a rapid proliferation of cells. Brain tumors can develop directly on brain tissues (primary brain tumors), or it can begin somewhere else in the body and metastasize into the brain (secondary brain tumors). Tumors of the brain can be classified as benign or malignant. Benign tumors do not contain any cancer cells and do not affect surroundings tissues. The tumors can easily be removed and rarely grow back. But, sometimes the tumors invade sensitive areas and cause problems. Malignant tumors on the other hand, contain cancer cells and usually metastasize or spread on other tissues. These tumors grow rapidly and generally impose serious complications.

Instructions

1. Notice how often you experience headaches. A generalized type of headache is the most common sign of brain tumor. As the tumor progresses, headaches occur more often than usual and are more intense. The pattern or time frame may change every now and then; but it is usually worse in the morning when waking up and gradually improves later in the day. A brain tumor headache often persists and is aggravated when bending, kneeling, coughing, changing positions, or when doing any strenuous activities.

2. Try to recall if you ever encountered any episodes of seizure. This is the second most prominent sign of a brain tumor. As the tumor presses on certain areas of the brain, it can cause disturbance in normal electrical flow. The brains' electrical current will become irregular and sudden causing convulsions (series of involuntary muscle contractions), tingling sensations and numbness, speech problems, altered vision and loss of consciousness.

3. Take note of how many times you feel sick and want to throw up. Nausea and vomiting may be due to other causes, but this is often a part of brain tumor symptoms that come with headaches. An individual with a brain tumor typically feels nauseated as the course of his headache takes place. Usual type of pain killers or headache remedies do not have any effect on this type of headache--but relief often occurs after the person vomits.

4. Monitor any changes in your mental state and behavior. Depending on the location of the tumor, symptoms such as speech problems, impaired concentration, short-term memory loss, disorientation and confusion may occur. You may also be lethargic. Cognitive functions are often reduced especially if the tumor metastasized and is pressing on the frontal area of the brain. Changes in personality and behavior are also noticeable if the tumor invades the area that controls emotions. You may often become irritable and impatient.

5. Observe your sight and hearing functions. You may experience vision and hearing problems when the brain tumor invades an area around the brain stem or meninges. Ptosis or abnormal drooping of the affected eye may occur. Sometimes the patient may become cross-eyed (strabismus) or may sometimes experience vision loss. Hearing problems can also be encountered by the patient, including a buzzing or a ringing sound in the ears, which can eventually lead to hearing loss.

6. Note any unusual sensations on certain parts of your body or a decrease in strength of your limbs or facial muscles. Individuals with brain tumors often feel abnormal sensations on arms, head, or any part of their bodies. Tingling sensations and numbness around these areas are the usual complaints. Facial muscle weakness is possible where you will have difficulty in performing certain types of facial expressions. Weakness of the upper and lower extremities can also be encountered which will then hinder your balance, coordination, gait and posture. You may also have difficulty in doing any functional activities that involve the use of legs, feet, arms and hands. In severe cases, muscle weakness can sometimes progress to muscle paralysis.

7. Check for other possible symptoms. Individuals with a tumor in the brain can suffer from other types of sensory problems such as an impaired sense of smell, lack of tongue control, and difficulty in swallowing or dysphagia. Hormonal or endocrine disorders may arise and, for some women, the menstruation period may become irregular or absent.

Build A Home Distillery

An industrial pot still for brandy-making.

Anyone who has seen "M.A.S.H." or a good moonshine and bootlegging movie like "Thunder Road", has seen a home distillery, or simply a "still." The simplest version of still to build at home is the pot still, which is actually still used to make most scotch and virtually all Irish whiskey today. The design is very simple, and the principle has changed very little over the last several decades.

Instructions

1. Purchase or convert a sealed copper boiling pot. Remember that this pot is where your substance to be distilled goes. In the case of whiskey, this would be a grain mash. The size of it will determine how much you can distill at once. If you are making your own pot, you will find that the simplest design involves a clamp-and-seal lid, much like that of a kitchen pressure cooker. Either way, you will need to closely monitor the temperature of the heat source, to make sure it is boiling the alcohol and not the water.

2. Consider how you intend to heat your pot. The simplest version of a copper pot still involves putting the boiling pot on stone blocks or metal stilts, and burning a fire underneath it to provide heat. This is still common practice for moonshiners. Industrial stills involve circulating steam through the bottom of the copper pot in pipes. You might need to do this if you plan to run your still indoors, but overall your heating system need only be as complicated as you make it.

3. Run a condensation coil from from the boiling pot to the collecting pot. This is a tube is typically made of either copper or glass. These tubes are where the alcohol will condense and collect, and it should slope downwards to the collecting pot, so that gravity will do the work of drawing it into the collecting pot.

4. Purchase or convert a collecting pot. This also needs to be sealed, and will fit into the other end of the condensation coil. The only added consideration for the collecting pot is how big you want to make it. These are usually smaller than the boiling pot, but if you want to put multiple distillations into the same pot without having to disconnect and empty it, it ought to be as big or bigger. However, a big pot may be too big to move when full, and will need a faucet installed on the bottom.

Kapha Spices

Black pepper is an important kapha spice.

Ayurvedic medicine treats imbalances in systems in the human body. One of these systems has to do with the stomach and is called kapha. Unbalanced kapha can be too strong, weak or restless and irritated. The proper spicing of foods, according to Ayurvedic medicine, helps control digestion and salivation and relieve diarrhea and nausea. There are kapha spices that decrease kapha, those that increase it and those that relieve or pacify it.

Kapha-increasing Spices

Most spices are good for kapha because they are hot and dry, like chillies, black pepper and dry ginger. However, some are used specifically to increase kapha health.

Ayurvedic medicine identifies slow digestion as one form of kapha imbalance. Excess mucous and phlegm usually accompanies this condition. Spices which have a warming effect on the stomach are thought to increase slow and heavy kapha in these individuals until it becomes balanced and healthy.

Cinnamon is one of these spices. It stimulates kapha by increasing salivation and warming the digestive system. Coriander seed has an additional effect. It is a cooling spice which stops burning sensations in the urine. At the same time it also steps up the kapha digestive system so that it works efficiently.

Sesame seed is a heavy, oily spice which heats the digestive system and heightens kapha. Tamari, seaweed and wakame used as spices also increase kapha, perking up the digestive system and exciting gastric secretion.

Kapha-decreasing Spices

According to Ayurvedic theory, some individuals have too much kapha. They have an overabundance of acid in their stomachs which can lead to illness and disease. They need to ingest spices that reduce the acid and kapha.

Celery seed is thought to help relieve nausea in high kapha individuals and reduce kapha. Fenugreek seed also decreases kapha and is said to relieve arthritis and fever. Cumin, mustard seed and anise seeds also reduce kapha.

Kapha-relieving Spices

There are kapha spices which do not specifically increase or decrease kapha but relieve or pacify it. They are among the most prized of all kapha spices.

Black pepper, according to Ayurvedic thought, plays an excellent role in pacifying kapha. In India it is often added to curries for this reason.

Other curry spices are also kapha-pacifying ones. Cardamom not only promotes digestion but is also thought to be good for the heart and breath odor. Ginger is considered to have the added attribute of detoxifying the digestive system. Turmeric not only pacifies kapha but helps in diabetes.

Diagnose Peritonitis

Stomach Massage

The inner abdominal wall and the organs within the abdomen are lined by a silk-like membrane. When this membrane becomes infected it is known as peritonitis. There are two forms of peritonitis which are known as primary and secondary. Primary peritonitis is caused from an infection entering the blood stream. Secondary, which is more common, is when bacteria enter the peritoneum from the gastrointestinal tract. Either case needs immediate medical attention as this is typically the result of more serious underlying conditions.

Instructions

1. Perform a physical examination to determine if underlying problems exist.

2. Determine whether surgery is needed to fix the underlying problem.

3. Feel and press the abdomen to detect any swelling and tenderness in the area as this may demonstrate whether fluids are collecting.

4. Listen to bowel sounds.

5. Check for signs of dehydration, difficulty breathing, and low blood pressure.

6. Perform procedures as needed: Blood tests, Samples of fluid from the abdomen, CT scan, Chest x-rays, or Peritoneal Lavage.

Reducing High Fever

A fever can be caused by a variety of different conditions, ranging from the flu to strep throat. When you have a fever, it is evidence that your body is fighting infection. If your fever gets too high, it can be a cause for serious condition so it’s important to monitor your temperature. Since your body’s immune system is working hard to combat infection, it’s imperative that you rest. You can also employ a wide array of methods in order to cool the body and reduce a high fever.

Instructions

1. Soak in a lukewarm bath for 10 to 15 minutes. The water should be tepid and not cold. If you start to shiver, warm up the water as shivering will cause your temperature to actually rise.

2. Apply cool compresses to your forehead and armpits. Do not use ice packs as they can lead to chills.

3. Wear a thin layer of cotton clothing. Avoid layers and warm blankets as they can exacerbate the fever.

4. Take an over-the-counter medication to reduce your fever. Acetaminophen, ibuprofen and aspirin are all commonly used to lower fevers.

5. Drink lots of cool liquids such as water and juices. They will help to gradually cool the body from the inside, and also keep you hydrated. Since dehydration is a common side effect of a high fever, it's imperative to stay hydrated.

6. Cool the room you are in to about 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The room's temperature should not be higher than 75 degrees or it will contribute to your high fever.

7. Remove socks and hats. Heat escapes your body through your feet and head so it's important to keep these body parts free of coverings.

Homeopathic Medicine In China

The people of China have been known around the globe for their homeopathic secrets to good health and longevity.

Accupuncture

Many claim that acupuncture has been practiced in China for over 4,000 years and has evolved from the use of sharpened stones to the use of sharp needles to relieve pain and alleviate other symptoms.

Accupressure

Acupressure is much like acupuncture, only instead of the use of needles, the Chinese incorporated the use of their hands to apply pressure to certain points of the body.

Aromatherapy

The Chinese have used fragrant herbal concoctions to stimulate the senses and promote healing of the body, mind and soul for centuries.

Tea Infusions

China is not only popular for its tea but also for its variety of healing herbal and green tea infusions that have been used for allegedly 4,000 years.

Herbs

Herbs like ylang ylang, jasmine and others are native to China and have been part of the country's homeopathic treatments for centuries.

Natural Acne Hormone Treatment Recommendations

Acne is a condition characterized by the onset of pimples, blackheads, papules, nodules, pustules, cysts, whiteheads, skin irritation, redness, swelling and inflammation. The acne eruptions can basically appear anywhere on your body--your face, back, neck, arms, legs, shoulders and torso. Certain natural hormone treatments may help alleviate the condition, because acne is sometimes caused by hormonal fluctuations in your body.

Saw Palmetto

In "Prescription for Herbal Healing," Phyllis A. Balch recommends the use of saw palmetto in men treating acne conditions that are not receiving testosterone therapy. Saw palmetto is an herb that contains plant sterols, fatty acids, flavonoids and polysaccharides, which offer you anti-inflammatory properties and help to improve immune system functioning. Take one 320 mg capsule of saw palmetto a day. Occasional side effects are reported with the use of saw palmetto, including stomach irritation and headache onset. Do not use saw palmetto to treat acne conditions if you are planning surgery soon; saw palmetto consumption can increase bleeding during surgical procedures.

Milk Thistle

Balch also explains that milk thistle helps to rid the body of excessive hormones by promoting the increased production of bile in the liver. The increase in bile production forces excessive hormones to flush out of a person's system via the bowels and passage of stools. Milk Thistle contains silymarin, which helps protect your liver and repair cell tissues. This herb also reduces inflammation, and has antioxidants that help to destroy free radicals in your body that can damage cell structures. Take two 120 mg milk thistle gel capsules twice a day for acne relief and for rebalancing your hormones.

Vitex

Balch explains how the use of Vitex is beneficial in treating acne formation caused by hormonal conditions. Vitex, also called chaste berry, normalizes hormones in females, and is commonly used to treat hormonal imbalances. It has also been used in teenagers, both male and female, to treat and diminish acne conditions. This herbal treatment contains two forms of testosterone as well as progesterone and androstenedione, but it does not have any plant estrogens. The author recommends that for long-term benefits, the herb must be taken for six months until symptoms disappear. You may see immediate results within a 10-day period, but it can take several months for the benefits of vitex consumption to become apparent. Consume Vitex for six months after all acne symptoms have passed for long-term benefits. Take one 450 mg capsule of vitex two to three times a day for eight to 12 weeks to balance out hormonal issues responsible for acne onset.

Black Cohosh

In "Is It Hot in Here? Or Is It Me?: The Complete Guide to Menopause," authors Barbara Kantrowitz and Pat Wingert Kelly explain that when woman go through menopause their estrogen levels drop. Such a drop can result in acne rosacea: a condition that is accompanied by facial redness, facial burning, stinging and pimples. The condition can also affect your back, eyes and nose. The authors recommend black cohosh as an herbal remedy for acne rosacea. Take 40 to 80 mg of black cohosh in tablet form per day to treat hormonal imbalances causing acne. If you experience dizziness, headache or nausea with higher doses, use lower doses of the herb to treat acne. Nursing and pregnant women should avoid using black cohosh, and those individuals with a history of breast cancer should also avoid its use.

Distill Rose Oil At Home

While you'll never get rich distilling your own rose oil---it can take up to 10,000 pounds of rose petals to produce an ounce of pure essential oil---making small quantities is a charming way to preserve your rose garden. The process of making rose oil begins with distilling the petals into a product called rosewater, also known as rose hydrosol, and removing the essential oils that form on top. You can buy a professional still, but for the beginning fragrance maker a homemade version can be put together with minimal difficulty.

Instructions

1. Pick enough roses to fill your kettle loosely. Gently cut or pluck the petals from the roses.

2. Put smooth river stones at the bottom of the kettle; this keeps the botanicals from scorching on the bottom of the kettle. Fill, but do not pack, the kettle full of rose petals, and gently crush them.

3. Use spring or distilled water to cover the rose petals.

4. On a counter next to the stove top, use a cake stand or overturned pot to elevate a bowl to the same level as the teapot spout.

5. Fill the bowl with ice water.

6. Place a jar next to the raised ice-water bowl so that the ice-water bowl is between the jar and the stove top. Ideally this jar, called the "receiver," will sit a little lower than the ice-water bowl.

7. Attach the plastic tubing to the end of the teapot spout, and put its other end in the receiver. The tube's middle section must rest in the bowl of ice water.

8. Cover the kettle, boil the water and then turn the burner to low. Continue simmering until the water in the pot reduces by half. This may take several hours, depending on the size of the kettle.

9. Examine your receiver. It should have collected up to a pint of the condensed droplets of the vaporized steam from the kettle. This is your rosewater, and can be used as is or further separated into rose hydrosol and essential oil.

10. To collect the essential oil, place the receiver jar into the freezer. The liquid part of the hydrosol will freeze while the essential oil will remain liquid and separate.

11. Pour the unfrozen part of the mixture, the essential oil, into a small vial and store in a cool, dark place.

Use Fluoride To Prevent Root Canal

Fluoride is a substance that strengthens the teeth and enamel (hard outer coating on teeth), fights tooth decay and helps to repair early damage to teeth. Many people use fluoride products in order to ensure their teeth remain healthy and strong. Since fluoride is safe to use in the comfort of your home, most dental health professionals recommend using toothpaste and mouth rinses that contain this substance. It is rather easy to care for your teeth and prevent tooth decay, and there are a few things that you can do to use fluoride to prevent root canal.

Instructions

1. Visit your dentist at least twice a year for a regular check-up. The dentist or dental hygienist can clean your teeth with a fluoride paste. He may also apply other professional fluoride products to your teeth, such as high-concentration fluoride compounds, fluoride gels and foams and fluoride varnish (painted directly onto the teeth). All of these products are proven to be effective in preventing tooth decay and root canal.

2. Use a fluoride toothpaste daily. Many name brand toothpastes contain fluoride and you should utilize this product on a daily basis. Be sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day (once in the morning and once before going to bed). Always gently brush your teeth in a circular motion (for at least two minutes) and be sure to brush all of your teeth.

3. Rinse your mouth daily with a fluoride mouth rinse. You should use a mouth rinse every day and make sure that you rinse for at least 30 seconds before spitting out the mouth rinse. Higher strength mouth rinses are available for those who are at a high risk for developing tooth decay. However, these particular mouth rinses must be prescribed by a dentist or physician.

4. Drink products that contain fluoride. Many stores carry fluoridated drinking water and processed beverages (with fluoride). Be sure to carefully read the label to ensure that you are purchasing a product with fluoride.

5. Take a dietary fluoride supplement. Fluoride supplements come in the form of tablets, lozenges and liquids and they must be prescribed by a dentist or physician. The tablets and lozenges can be chewed or sucked and the liquid is used with a dropper. Make sure that you chew or suck the tablets/lozenges for 1 to 2 minutes before swallowing.

Facts Hepatitis C

Hepatitis, inflammation of the liver, can be caused by several viruses. One specific cause is the hepatitis C virus. There are many people who are unaware that they are infected with the hepatitis C virus because they suffer no immediate symptoms. In America, there are approximately 17,000 people infected with hepatitis C every year (as of 2007).

Types and Symptoms

Hepatitis C can occur as a short-term illness, acute hepatitis C, or a long-term illness, chronic hepatitis C.

Although acute hepatitis C can last only a few weeks, chronic hepatitis C will lead to more-severe liver diseases such as liver cancer, cirrhosis (liver scarring), liver damage or liver failure. According to the CDC, out of every 100 people infected with the hepatitis C virus, nearly 75 to 85 will also develop chronic hepatitis C.

Symptoms rarely emerge for both acute and chronic hepatitis C, but if developed, the symptoms can include fatigue, abdominal pain, joint pain, loss of appetite, jaundice, vomiting, clay-colored bowel movements, dark urine, fever and nausea.

The development of symptoms in acute hepatitis C can occur two weeks to six months after a person is exposed to the virus; however, symptoms in chronic hepatitis C may not surface for several years.

Diagnosis

Both acute and chronic hepatitis C can be diagnosed by an initial blood screening (HCV Ab, anti-HCV), to observe hepatitis C antibodies, or release of chemicals, in the bloodstream. If the result is positive, it only confirms exposure to the virus. More extensive tests, such as Hepatitis C RNA, are needed to determine if the infection is acute or chronic.

Causes

One of the most common causes of infection with hepatitis C is sharing needles or other items used for injections. Some causes that are less common include unprotected sexual exposure with multiple partners, sharing personal items (nail clipper, razor, etc.) with someone who is infected, unclean instruments used for body-piercing and tattooing, and long-term hemodialysis.

Prior to 1992, organ transplants and blood transfusions were feared to be a means of contracting hepatitis C. But today, blood supply is screened and the chances of getting infected through these sources are rare. It is also rarely transferred to a baby during childbirth by a mother who is infected.

Treatment/Vaccine

Although no vaccine is currently available, ongoing research is being done to develop one for hepatitis C.

There are, however, two standard medications available for people with hepatitis C: peginterferons and interferons. Even though these drugs are commonly used together, they can cause serious side effects, including the inability to control blood sugar levels, which can cause diabetes.

Prevention

Hepatitis C virus infection can be prevented by avoiding practices that may lead to exposure to the virus. Use precautionary safety measures if your job requires that you be exposed to blood. Also take extra precautions to protect yourself when participating in sexual practices.

Warning

Hepatitis C is a serious disease which, over time, can progress into more-serious conditions. According to the CDC, in the U.S. alone, chronic hepatitis C has been diagnosed in nearly 3.2 million people and roughly 8,000 to 10,000 people per year die from hepatitis-C-related liver disease.

Correct Hormone Imbalances

There are many more types of hormones in the body than people realize. The hormonal system is one of the more delicate in the body. Slight changes such as a weaken immune system, a change in dose hormonal birth control or the onset of certain diseases or conditions can all cause imbalances. Hormone producing glands like the thyroid or pituitary glands can become sluggish or can begin to overproduce hormones. Even the foods you eat and the amount of sleep you get can affect this system. Working with your doctor, you should be able to identify the source and relieve your symptoms.

Instructions

1. Rule out the obvious. Menopause is a major cause of hormone irregularities. So is pregnancy. Your doctor will probably want to rule these things out first to be on the safe side.

2. Get tested. Malfunctioning adrenal glands and thyroid glands are common sources of hormonal imbalances. Hormone imbalances can also be caused by other medical conditions like poly cystic ovarian disorder. Your doctor will know what disorders to test for based on your symptoms and her exam. Locating the cause of your hormonal imbalance is key to correcting it. Even diabetes is a form of hormonal imbalance, as insulin is a hormone.

3. Examine your routines. A weakened immune system can throw off your hormonal imbalance. So can not getting enough sleep. Poor diet, lack of exercise and fatigue are all things that can weaken your immune system and sabotage your fragile hormone system. Be sure to get enough rest and exercise.

4. Examine your diet. You body naturally produces hormones, but also processes hormones found in your food. There have been many reported cases of people having tremendous side effects from hormones in their food, ranging from constant fatigue and weight gain to early puberty. Plants products that affect it include soy. Soy contains phytoestrogens, a substance that acts like the estrogen produced by your body. Dairy and meat products can come from cows or animals that were fed hormones while they were growing. Both of these can have an effect on your hormone levels, and they could be contributing to your symptoms.

5. Take hormone therapies. Once a hormonal imbalance is diagnosed--and its source is identified--your doctor may prescribe a hormone therapy consisting of hormones that will either replace under produced hormones or balance out overproduced ones. This treatment is not without side effects. You will need to be monitored by your doctor and record any change in symptoms, even if you think they are unimportant. Observe things like dry skin or brittle hair. All of these things create a complete picture for your doctor to evaluate your case.

6. Use hormonal birth control. In some cases, hormonal birth control can regulate a woman's hormonal cycle. This solution is not always appropriate for every kind of hormonal imbalance, as it can also lead to too much of a certain hormone in your body. It is also not a viable option for women over 35 who smoke cigarettes because it can increase stroke and heart attack risk. Careful monitoring of your blood chemistry will determine if this is an option for you. It should also be noted that some hormonal imbalances can be caused by starting or stopping hormonal birth control. Your body can usually correct these imbalances over time.

7. Evaluate other medications you are taking for drug interactions and side effects. It could be that you are experiencing a reaction to a certain medication you are taking. If all other avenues are dead ends, try asking your doctor to change your medications to test if this helps relieve your symptoms. This can be dangerous and should only be done under a doctor's supervision.

8. Explore herbs. An experienced natural medicine practitioner may be able to develop a regime of herbal therapies to balance your hormonal system. Many people have found success using these methods. It can be unsafe to try this method without the advice of an experienced practitioner, as incorrect dosages of herbs can be just as dangerous as incorrect dosages of medications. Herbs are very powerful and should be used with reverence and a full understanding of how they work in the body.

Foods High In Folic Acid & Iron

In order to maintain good nutrition, especially while pregnant or nursing, you should look for foods high in folic acid and iron. Folic acid can prevent neural tube defects while iron can prevent the mother and child from becoming anemic.

Function

Folic acid can helps the body make hemoglobin while iron helps the body produce healthy red blood cells.

Foods

You can find folic acid in fortified cereals, citrus fruits, citrus juices, beans and green leafy vegetables, like spinach, broccoli and collard greens. Iron rich foods include red meats, fish, poultry, beans, lentils and iron enriched cereals.

Requirements

Your iron and folic acid intake requirements will depend on your age and gender. On average 8-15 milligrams of iron is recommended a day while 400 to 600 micrograms of folic acid is typically recommended.

Considerations

You may not get enough folic acid and iron from foods and may need to take a supplement, especially during pregnancy or while nursing.

Considerations

Eat foods high in vitamin C in order to help your body absorb both iron and folic acid.

Bowel Cleansing Preparation

Bowel cleansing preparations may be used to rid the intestines of fecal matter for upcoming medical procedure or for other health reasons such as built up toxins, diarrhea, bloating and gas. There are a number of ingredients one should look for such as fiber, antioxidants and probiotics in an effective bowel cleanser preparation.

Reasons for Bowel Cleansing

There are three basic reasons for starting a bowel cleansing regimen. Medical procedures such as colonoscopy require bowel cleansing to clear the colon of fecal matter so that the walls of the intestines may be examined for polyps, perforations and cancers. Others may wish to use a bowel cleansing preparation for digestive health reasons such as built up fecal material, constipation, diarrhea bloating gas, and yeast overgrowth. Still others believe that an effective bowel cleansing preparation will help rid their bodies of toxins and provide other benefits such as weight loss.

Medical Bowel Cleansers

Medical procedures such as colonoscopy will require the patient to stop eating several hours before a procedure and drink an oral electrolyte solution such as Golytely which acts to flush the intestines of all fecal matter by flooding the intestines with a salt-type solution along with a laxative such as a suppository, enema or laxative. This type of bowel cleansing is not recommended for any use other than in preparation for a medical procedure and is only temporary.

Natural Bowel Cleansers

Those wishing to use a colon cleanser for health reasons will need to choose from a wide variety of available products which vary as to the length of time it takes to accomplish the goal. Some preparations claim to work in a day or so but the most effective products appear to be programs that work over several days up to two weeks for the entire program. The main ingredients one should look for are: insoluble fiber such as psyllium husks, wild oats or flax seed hulls to push the fecal matter out and scrub the intestinal walls, antioxidant plant products such as berries or pomegranate to aid in regeneration and health of the digestive walls, and probiotics such as Lactobacillus bacteria to replace healthy digestive bacteria and reduce Candida or yeast growth. Proponents of natural bowel cleansing preparations believe that a quality colon cleanser can remove pounds of built up fecal matter and yeast that has multiplied in the digestive tract resulting in the unpleasant symptoms of diarrhea or constipation, bloating and gas.

Follow-Up

Bowel cleanser preparations used for natural health reasons may be repeated every three or four months to maintain a healthy bowel and prevent future digestive issues. In addition to repeating the bowel cleansing regimen, one should be sure to eat healthy food with plenty of fiber and antioxidants and drink adequate amounts of water along with practicing a moderate exercise routine to ensure colon health.

Develop The Power Of Healing

Developing the power of healing is a responsibility if you have the healing gift. How that gift manifests is unique to each person. Some healers may excel with herbs and potions. Still others might perform healing with energy, applying such techniques as Reiki. More esoteric healing powers are spiritual, utilizing the power of prayer.

Instructions

Developing the Power of Healing

1. Practice conscious relaxation. Robert Egby, author and healer, explains that healers seek to reduce stress to grow in effectiveness. Egby outlines a basic breathing exercise. To begin: wear loose, comfortable clothing. Sit in an upright, but comfortable, chair. Sit straight, with your feet flat on the floor. Rest your hands on your thighs or in your lap. Closing your eyes, pay attention to your breathing. Do not force yourself to breathe in any particular way. Simply attend to your breath. Your mind will become harmonized with your breath, bringing the mind-body into synchronization. Breathe in through your nose. Exhale slowly through your mouth (see Reference 2). Continue for 10-15 minutes.

2. Learn to balance energy through a healing method, such as Reiki. Study Reiki healing patterns and lay on hands for your healing and that of others. As you study under a Reiki master, experience and share the divine energy that Reiki practitioners believe can heal physical, emotional and spiritual disorders. (See Resources for information about Reiki.)

3. Study herbal therapies. Knowledge is power. Learn herbal properties and the parts of plants used for different healing. When you acquire an increasing knowledge of botanical healing, you enhance your power to heal. Use the gifts of creation to supplement your innate gift. (See Reference 3.)

4. Look deeply. Bill Gustafson, site author for Bliss Self Help, suggests that healing requires looking beneath the superficial elements of injury or illness. Look deeply into illness and pain. Visualize a person's internal structure. Realize that human organs, circulatory systems and skeletal structures are atomic structures, with molecules suspended by energy (see Reference 1). Learn to work with the energy that supports everything. According to Gustafson, energy healing practices include, but are not limited to, "altered states, dreams, folk medicine, energy and prayer healing." (See Reference 1.)

5. Follow a spiritual path. Whatever your spiritual beliefs may be, commit to following that path. Religions and spiritual traditions offer clear guidance toward the ultimate goals which they envision. As you explore the wealth of your tradition, you will begin to experience freedom from what separates you from the stream of life. Enter into that stream for self-acceptance and compassion. These are essential qualities for an effective healer.

Schwannoma Growth

Schwannomas are neural tumors that grow within the nerve sheath. These tumors arise from the schwann cells inside the nerve. Because neural tumors can exist in any nerve throughout the body, their growth varies greatly. Schwannomas are very slow-growing tumors in most cases. However, schwannomas can undergo malignant changes that cause the tumor to grow rapidly and into surrounding tissues, organs and bones. Schwannoma growth is often asymptomatic until it is fairly large, unless it is in a compacted area. A neurologist, oncologist, neurosurgeon or any combination of the three are the most qualified doctors to assess schwannoma growth.

Identification

Some schwannomas, such as those that occur in peripheral nerves, are visible from the outside. Major growth is visible by observing the size externally. This technique is not extremely accurate, since schwannomas can grow inward, and external observation only shows outward growth. Schwannomas that occur in nerves inside the brain, trunk or anywhere deep within the body are only visible via X-ray, computerized tomography (CT), ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. MRI is the scan of choice for measuring schwannomas with extreme detail. Comparing current scans with previous scans reveals any growth between the two.

Features

Schwannomas can grow anywhere in the nervous system, so their development varies greatly. Schwannomas grow in a direction until they meet resistance, and then change direction to continue growing. Most schwannomas that haven't hit a bone, muscle or organ tend to grow in an oval shape, since growing lengthwise in a nerve is not restricted at all, but the nerve sheath does provide some resistance. If a structure blocks the schwannoma, the growth extends sideways. In small places, such as the head, schwannomas can even grow in a barbell shape from surrounding structures restricting growth. Malignant schwannomas extend through the nerve sheath and into nearby organs, tissues or bone.

Considerations

Remember that measuring the growth using two different techniques provides completely different numbers, and is not accurate for comparison. An ultrasound and an MRI scan done at the same time will not match. Discrepancies in these numbers cannot reveal growth because of their different capabilities in measuring the schwannoma.

Effects

When a schwannoma grows, it pushes other nerve fibers outward. Once the fibers press against something, such as bone, muscle or an organ, symptoms appear. Symptoms from schwannomas include numbness, tingling, shooting pains, electric shock sensations, pins and needles and buzzing feelings. As the schwannoma further presses the nerve, these symptoms become more severe, and the affected nerves suffer innervation. This causes muscle atrophy in the areas that depend on the nerve for sensations. Schwannomas can also press against veins or arteries and cause a loss of downward blood flow. Schwannomas pressing on organs can cause dysfunction in the organs affected.

Prevention/Solution

Radiation is effective at stopping growth, and can sometimes reverse it. Specifically, Gamma Knife and reflected solar radiation are common choices when treating schwannoma growth. The only solution to schwannoma growth is surgical removal. The neurosurgeon opens the nerve sheath and carefully cuts the schwannoma out of the nerves. It is rare to remove the entire schwannoma, and there is a possibility that it will return. Removing a malignant schwannoma growth is much more complicated, since doctors aim to remove all diseased areas, even those outside the nerve.

Considerations

Schwannomas that undergo rapid growth warrant a new MRI scan and full assessment by a physician. Rapid growth is often one of the first signs of malignant transformation.

Make An Infinity G35 Faster

Make an Infinity G35 Faster

The Infiniti G35 is based on the sporty Nissan Z platform and is available as a sedan or as a coupe. In stock form, the G35 is an impressive car thanks to its sports tuned suspension and powerful V6 engine. But this is also a heavy, luxury oriented vehicle. The G35 coupe and sedan are great starting points for a fast car that is also very fun to drive. There is a large aftermarket catering to enthusiasts who desire to make their G35s faster.

Instructions

1. Install a larger diameter exhaust. This is one of the most common methods to increase a vehicle's power and the G35 is not an exception. A larger diameter exhaust can be installed from the catalytic converter back (so emissions compliance is retained) which will allow the G35's engine to make more power, which in turn makes it faster.

2. Replace the stock manifolds with headers and the stock catalytic converters with high-flow catalytic converters. Manifolds are relatively restrictive thanks to their cast design. A set of tubular headers will get spent exhaust gasses out of the engine more quickly, as will high-flow catalytic converters.

3. Replace the air box with a cold air intake. Incoming air is channeled through an air box before entering the intake. The air box is relatively restrictive. Replacing the air box with a cold air intake delivers additional air to the engine thanks to the larger diameter tubing and large cone filter on the end of it.

4. Install an intake plenum spacer. The G35's intake manifold volume can be enlarged with the installation of a spacer. The more air the intake plenum can hold, the more power the G35's engine can make.

5. Reprogram the engine's computer. This is another common method to make a G35 faster. The stock settings that control the engine are conservative. Reprogramming the ECU will allow the engine to receive more air, fuel and emanate more power.

6. Upgrade the handling. A faster car is not faster in a straight line, but around corners as well. A heavy, luxurious car like the G35 in particular will take very well to a lower, stiffer suspension and will allow it to corner quicker.

7. Install performance wheels and tires. Replacing the G35's stock wheels and tires with lighter aftermarket alloys and stickier tires will help it handle much better and make it faster overall.

8. Eliminate weight. The G35 is an upscale luxury car with strong performance and is pretty heavy. While you don't want to go too crazy with weight reduction, there are a few ways to eliminate excess pounds and get more speed from the G35. A carbon fiber hood and trunk will save weight, as will lighter racing seats in lieu of the heavy original seats.

Arthritis Lower Back Pain Relief

As we grow older, joint pain is common, but for some, arthritis attacks the joints causing considerable pain. Lower back pain is one of the causes of most joint pain in older adults. Treatment for pain relief ranges from natural homeopathic medicines to surgery.

Natural Remedies

Some individuals suffering from lower back pain find relief with acupuncture, as well as other alternative medicines. Natural medicine are less likely to cause drug interactions and other potential harmful side effects. Omega-3 Fatty acids are a natural anti-inflammatory that can reduce inflammation in joints, while herbs like primrose oil, capsaicin and devil's claw are natural pain relievers.

Topical Treatments

Patients with early stages of arthritis or minimal lower back pain can find immediate relief with topical treatments, which contain the pain-relieving element salicylate. This relieves any minor joint pain and muscle discomfort.

Over-the-Counter Medication

Over-the-counter medications, like aspirin, can relieve joint pain. Many companies offer arthritis formulas, which are analgesics (painkillers) that inhibit the pain. However, extended use of over-the-counter medications can be harmful to other organs, including the liver.

Prescription Medications

Severe cases of arthritis will require prescription medications, including NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as the medication Mobic, corticosteroids like the medication Prednisone, narcotic analgesic painkillers such as Vicodin and DMARDS (disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs) like the medication Plaquenil. Depending on the severity of the arthritis, patients could have one or a combination of prescription drugs.

Joint Surgery

In the case of lower back pain, some cases are so severe that surgery is the only option for relief. Depending on the cause of the pain, such as herniated discs or calcification of joints, back surgery may be required; however, most doctors will agree, when it comes to lower back pain, back surgery is always the last option.

What Does This Mean for You?

Arthritis can be a temperamental condition, and depending on pain tolerance, can be controlled with simple exercise and over-the-counter medications. Should the pain increase and remain for an extended period of time, it is best to seek medical attention.

Natural Remedies For Pain Of Bone Cancer

Bone cancer pain can consist of muscle soreness, fatigue and nerve pain from tumors constricting internal organs and nerve networks. It's often managed with pain medications, radiation therapy and nerve blocks. However, these treatments cause pain as well. Alternative treatments can ease the pain of bone cancer without the use of chemicals and carry fewer side effects as standard treatments, such as constipation and drowsiness.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy can aid in pain reduction by aiding circulation, encouraging relaxation and the releasing of endorphins, the body's natural pain relievers. Massage therapy is beneficial pain relief when received several times a week, though it has not been proven as a long-term pain solution. Often, those with advanced cancer lack daily physical contact, and regular massages can improve moods, which in turn can help with pain management.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese treatment that involves the insertion of small needles into various pressure points on the body. This treatment is believed to stimulate energy flow in the body. This energy charge is believed to stimulate the immune system, helping regulate health, energy balance, and the control of bone cancer pain. It must be noted that while many tout acupuncture as a legitimate technique in pain control, it has not been proven to cure any affliction.

Magnetic Therapy

Magnetic Therapy is an experimental treatment still undergoing examination. It is thought that if the north (negative) side of the magnet is placed on a pain site, blood becomes stimulated and oxygenated, creating new and positive energy. Similar to acupuncture, this new and positive energy is thought to regulate the immune system and even the body's ability to manage pain. Magnetic therapy is believed to cancel any disease-caused acidity in the body, due to its own alkaline properties. This cancellation is thought to aid in the healing process.

Medicaid Look Back Rules In Washington State

Medicaid is a program which helps financially-strapped individuals receive insurance coverage for medical care. Some individuals take advantage of the low cost savings of this program by hiding their assets. The "Look Back" period for Medicaid is the period in which investigators must check transfers of assets to make sure they were not done with the intention of making an otherwise ineligible person appear to be destitute and thus eligible for Medicaid.

Deficit Reduction Act

The Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005 changed the look back period for Medicaid considerably. Previously, the limit was three years, but the DRA changed that to five years, and the penalty period was changed from the date of asset transfer to the date the person would have otherwise been eligible to receive benefits under Medicaid. Each state must apply the DRA guidelines separately, but the federal look back is five years.

Excluded Assets

In Washington State, certain assets are excluded from the eligibility requirement, so transfers of these assets are not required to be investigated as part of the look back period. Your home, car, life insurance (less than $1,500), prepaid burial plans and most personal effects are not considered assets which count against the possibility of receiving Medicaid. You are also legally able to transfer your home to your spouse, sibling, adult child who lives there as a caregiver or a dependent child under 21, in order to qualify.

Recovery Programs

Regardless of your eligibility for Medicaid, during the look back period, Washington state may recover or be paid back any Medicaid benefits you received from your estate after death. These recovery programs will exempt your spouse or other individuals still living who may need access to the assets the state seeks to collect, but it is important to note that assets not transferred or otherwise dealt with will be removed from your estate, and your heirs may potentially be burdened with these costs.

Foods For Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a functional bowel disease. People with IBS have intestinal overreactions to stimuli, so many foods can trigger symptoms.

Types

There are three types of IBS: diarrhea-dominant, constipation-dominant or alternating bouts of both.

Individuals may have "trigger" foods that vary, but overall there are foods that work well for most people with IBS.

Good Foods

Good carbohydrate-rich foods are breads, pastas, and rice with at least two grams of fiber per serving. Vegetables, including lettuce and green beans, are good choices. Lean meats that are baked or broiled are generally well tolerated. Fruits with lower sugar are better tolerated than others.

Bad Foods

Foods with high fat content (30 percent or more of its calories from fat) may trigger symptoms.

High-protein foods can cause similar problems. They produce gas as they are digested.

Some vegetables, like broccoli, create so much bloating that they are best avoided.

Considerations

Using a gas reducing product, like Gas-X or Beano, before meals may allow you to eat some foods that would otherwise cause acute symptoms.

Negotiate A Property Easement

From time to time, municipal parties need to get easements to properties in the area in order to do routine work on water systems, roadways, or other municipal responsibilities. However, the owner of the property needs to technically grant the easement. Negotiations are sometimes necessary to give the property owner compensation or to get the necessary easement. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

1. Explain the need for the easement to the property owner. If an owner knows that the easement is for the municipality to work on infrastructure, they may donate the easement to the municipality. Otherwise, they may want some monetary compensation.

2. Use legal resources to find a fair purchase price for the easement.

3. Make sure that you have requested a sufficient size of an easement. The easement generally is purchased according to number of feet from the edge of the property (on the side near municipal roads, etc.) It's no use going about getting an easement that won't allow municipal workers to actually fix things. If the size of the easement seems large to the property owner, explain the specifics such as why they need so much space, and what equipment/methodology will be used by workers.

4. Play hardball if needed. If the property owner seems unreasonable and set against signing an easement, it's time to diplomatically explain that the municipality can, in many cases, obtain an easement without consent, through the use of eminent domain laws. Eminent domain is intended to help the municipality do the work that it needs to do for the welfare of all of its residents.

5. Inform the property owner of the process and keep in touch regarding what will be done and when. An informed land owner is better equipped to cooperate with municipal requests.

Remove A Bunion

Remove a Bunion

The technical term for a bunion is "hallux valgus," referring to an abnormality in the structure of the foot and toe that causes a potentially painful bone and joint deformity. Doctors suggest you first attempt to manage the condition using more conservative means before trying to remove the bunion. Read on to learn remove a bunion.

Instructions

Get a Bunion Removed

1. Understand that a surgical procedure is the only way to completely remove a bunion. A patient with a bunion is encouraged to turn to surgery only when the pain caused by the bunion is too severe to be managed, though some people choose to remove bunions for cosmetic reasons as well.

2. Consult a surgeon for an evaluation of your specific case. Surgical treatment of a bunion may involve the removal, realigning, straightening, shortening or repositioning of a number of bones, joints and/or toes.

3. Remember that your surgeon may recommend specific removal techniques appropriate to your age, your health, your level of physical fitness and significant lifestyle factors.

4. Choose your preferred method of anesthetic. A general or spinal anesthetic is sometimes used, though more and more surgeons are choosing local anesthetics for bunion removal procedures. You should inform your physician if you have ever had an adverse reaction to any type of anesthetic.

5. Schedule your surgery. You should anticipate a recovery period of about six and eight weeks.

Recover From Bunion Removal Surgery

6. Anticipate that you will likely need the aid of crutches to get around, especially in the first few weeks following the surgery.

7. Avoid any undue stress on your foot during the recovery period. Rest your foot at an elevated height as frequently as possible, as it will help reduce the post-surgical swelling you may experience.

8. Be sure to choose an appropriate new pair of shoes to wear once your recovery period has passed. Shoes with sharp, cramping points, shoes that are extremely narrow and footwear that is very tight should be avoided.

9. Report any unanticipated side effects or possible infections to your surgeons as soon as possible. Remember that all surgical procedures are performed at some degree of risk to the patient, and that no anesthetic is 100-percent safe for use in all people.

Design A Stress Management Plan For A Pitta Ayurveda Mindbody Type

Pitta is one of the three mind-body types in Ayurveda medicine. Pitta people are of medium build: distinct from their skinny Vata or heavyset Kapha friends. Athletic, competitive, productive and ready for a mental and physical challenge, Pittas are accustomed to accomplishing whatever they set their very sharp minds to do. Stress can physically manifest in a Pitta as a skin rash, acne, heartburn or feelings of agitation. Pitta imbalance is said to be an increase in the heat and fire associated with Pitta.

Instructions

1. Get 20 to 30 minutes of moderate to strenuous physical exercise daily. More than any other dosha (mind-body type), Pittas have the physical skill and stamina to run before work or even bike to it. Physical exercise is a highly effective stress-buster for Pittas as they also love the physical challenge and they naturally excel in sports of all types.

2. Define daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals. Pittas are leaders and expect themselves to meet all of their professional and personal goals and to surpass them. Type A to the hundreth power, Pittas benefit from drafting on paper crystal-clear goals in their professional and personal lives. If you are the head of your group at work, delegate and mentor. Monitor, revise and adjust goals as needed.

3. Remember to take a mental health day. Pittas are generally so productive at work that they have accrued vacation time. If you can, take a half-day Friday and sneak out to a movie with your child, spouse, partner or best friend. Not every Friday but at least once every six months.

4. Do not skip meals. This is a no-brainer for Pittas who have the metabolism of a fire engine. Pittas might eat three meals a day and two or three smaller snacks to fuel them through their day. Pittas have been known to wake up in the middle of the night, stomach growling, necessitating a glass of milk or a bowl of cereal. Do not overeat.

5. Learn meditate. The hard-driving Pitta can easily overdo it with work and social commitments. Learning transcendental meditation or a simple sitting meditation will help lower heart rate and blood pressure if practiced regularly.

6. Keep your sense of humor about you. If you are a brain surgeon, that is pressure. If you are not, remember that while your work and family responsibilities may be great, do not take yourself too seriously all the time. Keep a funny calendar on your desk at work or listen to stand up comedy on your iPod or in the car. Watch comedies on the weekends to lighten things up. Laughing, like physical exercise, can release endorphins to reduce stress.

7. Volunteer. Use your considerable talents, skills and leadership abilities to be a Big Brother, Big Sister or coach your daughter’s soccer team or help with their bake sale. Teach your children play tennis or take a small group of their friends with you to the local swimming pool to learn the backstroke.

Waiting for your hair to grow out is tedious and may take months of creative styling and awkward in-between-length hair. If you are desperate to get your hair growth going, there is nothing wrong with trying out a few natural remedies. The remedies suggested below may help you speed up your hair growth to a more tolerable rate. Keep in mind, however, that these remedies are suggested for repeated use---you may not see results with just one treatment.

Gingko Biloba

Gingko biloba is said by herbal practitioners to increase blood circulation to the brain and skin, thereby increasing the oxygen and nutrients delivered there. Increasing blood circulation to the scalp is a good idea if you are trying to grow you hair as quickly as possible. A daily gingko biloba supplement may be able to do this for you.

Onion

Onion is a popular folk remedy said to stimulate hair growth when it is rubbed on the scalp. Take an onion, cut it in half, and rub the pulp all over your scalp until your skin becomes tingly. Shampoo and condition afterwards to get rid of the smell.

You can also make a tonic out of half an onion, chopped, some stinging nettle, and half a cup of vodka. Combine the ingredients, refrigerate in a covered container for two days, then strain the onions from the liquid. Pour the liquid over your hair in the shower and give your scalp a good massage.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a Native American folk remedy said to promote thicker, longer, healthier hair. You can try this for yourself by cutting open some fresh aloe vera leaves and massaging the pulp into your scalp. You can also put aloe vera in the rest of your hair for a moisturizing effect.

Honey, Egg, Almond Oil

A honey, egg, and almond oil paste is yet another folk remedy for promoting hair growth. Mix equal parts honey, almond oil, and egg yolk into a paste and massage it into your scalp. Leave this on for an hour. You can wrap a towel or plastic wrap around your head to contain the mess. You can also warm up some plain almond oil and massage it into your scalp for 30 minutes.

2. Begin messaging the tip of the thumb on your right hand with the thumb on your left hand. Do this by applying pressure and moving your thumb in a circular motion.

3. Move on to the tips of your fingers on your right hand. Do each one for at least one minute again applying pressure with the thumb from the left hand. Message in a circular motion.

4. Switch hands. Now you want to message your left thumb with your right thumb. Then move on to the tips of your fingers on your right hand.

Federal Guidelines For Hipaa

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is one of the benchmarks of the Clinton administration. It is one of the most comprehensive federal laws to date that governs the use of personal medical records.

Identification

Public law 104-191 created on August 21, 1996 during the 104th Congress created what is known as the HIPAA.

Features

This federal law includes a mandate to review each employee's access to Protected Health Information (PHI) in order to determine the level of access the employee needs, getting signed approval before releasing PHI and appointing an officer in charge HIPAA compliance.

Significance

This law prohibits the distribution of a patient's medical record unless sufficient evidence proves the requesting party has a reasonable right to information.

Warning

Failure to comply with federal HIPAA law will result in fines up to $250,000. Like many other healthcare violations, fines are higher where fraudulent intent is proven.

Potential

The spirit of HIPAA seeks to simplify the use of PHI by administrative staff and healthcare providers. When healthcare professionals fully comply with the law, that efficiency will be realized.

What Are The Treatments For Facet Joint Pain

Facet join pain results from arthritis in between the joints of the spine. If untreated, arthritis between the joints can disfigure and debilitate the joints, causing extreme pain. With advances in modern technology and traditional treatments, facet joint arthritis is treatable, and the pain resulting from facet joint syndrome can be put at bay.

Good Posture

Because facet joint pain deals with the spine, maintaining good posture is vital in treating the arthritic affliction. In order to maintain good posture when standing in one position for an extended amount of time, like at a kitchen sink, rest one foot on a stool or ledge. This helps to maintain a healthy curve of the lower back.

Installing back cushions in the car seat helps to maintain lower back posture while driving. Keeping your abdomens flexed and firm helps to keep the back aligned. Maintaining this posture helps to lessen the symptoms of facet joint pain.

Chiropractic Treatments

All doctors do not recommend chiropractic adjustment; however, this treatment is recommended by spine-health.com as a possible relief for the pain of facet joint syndrome. Chiropractic treatment has been used in America for over 100 years to relief back pain. This treatment is considered alternative and does not fall under the branch of traditional medicine. These maneuvers are claimed to put you in positions that help to take pressure off of the joints. Arthritis often disfigures or causes slippage in the spine joints; some feel that chiropractic adjustments potentially help to realign the joints and keep pain at bay.

Medicines and Surgery

The pain from arthritis in the facet joints is often treated via NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory). This group comprises drugs like Motrin and Celebrex. In more severe cases, pain medicines such as codeine may be prescribed; sometimes, muscle relaxants are used to treat pain. If heat wraps, chiropractic adjustments and medicines do not work, surgical treatment maybe necessary.

Radiofrequency neurotomy is the surgical process for killing or "de-nerving" the nerve in the afflicted facet joint. Using a special X-ray machine, doctors locate the nerve and insert a needle into the facet joint. An electric current flows through the needle and kills the nerve, thus relieving pain.

Modification and Physical Therapy

In most cases of facet joint pain, a readjustment of daily movement may be necessary. This may include decreasing the amount of twisting, excessive stretching and bending that occurs in your daily routine. If your doctor confirms the existence of facet joint arthritis, he or she may recommend going to physical therapy. Physical therapy to treat facet joint pain varies on the severity of facet joint syndrome. Some modes of physical therapy include: electric stimulation, massage therapy and thermal therapy.

Electric stimulation occurs by applying a small electric current on the back; the current helps stimulate the muscles lining the spine, helping to release tension that leads to pain. Massages help to loosen muscle tension, allowing the muscles to reduce pressure on the afflicted joints. Thermal therapy includes placing heat on the lower back, relieving tension in muscles lining the lower vertebrae.

A physical therapist may recommend certain exercises; while recommended exercises are recommended from professional to professional, there are some standard exercises that are employed. These include the cat, cobra and pelvic tilt. The cat entails lowering your self to all fours and arching your back to mimic the positioning of a cat. After arching, lower your back, making it concave. The cobra entails laying flat on your stomach; use your arms to lift your upper body off of the ground. This mimics the positioning of a cobra. The pelvic tilt includes laying flat on your back with knees raised. Flex your lower abdomen and buttocks, flattening the curve in your spine. All these exercises strengthen the lower back, while stretching the muscles.

Do not attempt these exercises, or any of the above treatments, without consulting your doctor first.
